Coggins, from what you have posted, would it be fair to say the Church has taken a "we don't know" approach to evolutionary matters, except for speculation about men always being men and dogs always being dogs? (by the way, do you think "men always being men" is perhaps a new update to the eternal progression idea?)
Three quick questions for you:
1. About how old is the earth?
2. Where did the dinosaur bones come from?
3. Do you think Darwin has made it out of Spirit Prison?

I'm not Coggins but I'll take a stab.
1. Bruce R. McConkie stated that God has presided over our universe for 2,500,000,000 years. I'm not sure if that's how old the earth is though. It's probably a few years less than that.
2. My visit to the Creation Museum in Kentucky taught me that Adam and Eve lived alongside Tyrannosaurus rex in blissful Eden, free from violence. They were created by God on Day 6.
3. Nope. Those spirit bars are hard to bend.

Mind if I take a stab at it:
1. 4,621,897,114 years, 234 days, 6 hours, 23 minutes, and 57 seconds ago by the Gregorian calendar.
2. Dinosaurs, at least there better be dinosaurs. I'm getting a T-Rex in the next life as a pet.
3. Yes.

Which can you possibly test?

How about which claims have been tested, debunked, and pushed aside? The history of Judeo-Christianity is full of these (flat earth, the earth is the center of the universe, all the beliefs about the nature of disease before the germ-theory of disease, species immutability, worldwide flood event, etc.). Some LDS claims have been put to the test as well. The claim that the Book of Mormon is a literal history of the ancient inhabitants of this continent and that those inhabitants are decendents of Isrealites has been tested and refuted (except by a few apologists and the anecdotal evidence of devout believers). If a claim cannot be tested or repeated, it falls outside of the realm of science. If you say God exists and that we are resurrected after death...fine. If I say there is no God and that we are reincarnated after death...equally fine. When you make truth claims other than those based on empirical evidence, your word is as good as mine.

That's nice. Its also irrelevant. Its not official Church doctrine and never was.
It was taught. It is relevant.
Nobody can pin down Mormon doctrine, but we do know what we were taught.
Well, I heard my mother telling me this, but I'd like chapter and verse from you or Scratch to support the statement above.

Sure! I will gladly cough them up as soon as you either:
A) Confess to unscrupulously manipulating your sources, or
B) Provide "chapter and verse" from official Church doctrine explaining why coffee or other caffeinated beverages are verboten.

Ouch. I'll have to remember this one the next time an apologist pulls out the "not official doctrine" card.
"We of this Church do not rely on any man-made statement concerning the nature of Deity. Our knowledge comes directly from the personal experience of Joseph Smith." - Gordon B. Hinckley

By the way, for all the people who read this whole interview, did it come across to you like Wickman was there to be the "adult" and clean up, PR-wise, after whatever Nelson said?
He was interviewed with Oaks before too. Kinda funny they have to drag in a Seventy to make sure an interview with an Apostle goes well.

Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

Everything you have sited those was never at the core of the belief system. Suppose you had a time machine and could go back and show these people that the Earth was round, draw a diagram of the Solar System and explain it, pull out a microscope and show the cause of disease, and disprove the worldwide flood....do you think they would throw out their belief system? I don't. I know I didn't when further study shot down some religious explanations I have had for things.
