How about this, Sethbag? I hereby propose a truce. I will agree to cease calling Loran a hick, rube, Gomer, etc., provided that he agrees to quit hauling out his "you are not intellectually and philosophically serious" stuff, such as he has done with gknowlton and countless other posters. Sound like a good deal, or what?

Sounds like a plan to me. I just got the feeling over the last few days that the sniping from all sides had gotten too heated. And Nehor, in particular, was sniped at quite a bit although he didn't snipe back in kind.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

That sounds pretty good to me, Scratch, because if I have to trip over bitchy remarks like this:
Coggins7 :
A short correction. I should not have said that virtually 100% of all terrorism suspects worldwide are of Middle Eastern dissent. Islamic fundamentalist religion is the major variable here, not ethnic background. It would have been more factual to say that the majority of terror suspects and perpetrators are of Middle Eastern extraction, and virtually 100% are Muslim
John Lindh is one anomaly among a vast sea, and it was his adopted Jihadist ideology that again, makes him unique.
The next time a Dutch film maker blows up a passenger jet, let me know.
Note: this has nothing whatever to do with race (except in the mind of a racist) and everything to do with culture and ideology.

Thanks for that correction, Loran. It's all about baby steps. But, being a recovering drunk, you surely know that already.
much longer, someone's going on a rampage and it won't be pretty.

Are you actually pretending not to understand the difference between calling names and putting others down in a vulgar and uncivil manner and making a principled observation when it needs to be made? Scholars do that all the time Scratch. Calling a spade a spade must be done, but its the way its done that makes the difference.
Not being intellectually serious is descriptive of a demonstratable lack of philosophical substance or lucidity. Being a hick or being called Gomer is nothing but an adolescent cut down intended to derail the conversation and make you feel superior when your losing an argument. I'm trying hard to get away from the ad hominems, but I'm not going to cease pointing out intellectual sloppiness or lack of substance when I see it.

ME! I've been out of town for the Utah Ren Fest. I'm almost recovered from a weekend-long drinking/fighting binge.
:P
I must be going to the wrong Ren events. I went to one last weekend and didn't get a single fight. I did get blessed by a Catholic Nun and get threatened by a dominatrix reject with a whip and sword but no fighting. I must be going to the wrong events.

I worked last weekend, raising a quarter of a million for my employer. I am definitely going to the wrong events!

I love you, too, man. I'm starting to get misty ....
