I would like to add a few words here. I hold a Doctorate in Business Administration. My partner holds a Masters degree in Education. And my boss holds a Doctorate degree in Christian Service. It's a lot of paper on the wall, I know, but none of us, surprisingly, have ever been tempted to stray from our faith. By faith the worlds were created, not by science. By faith a man might please God, not by academic achievments. Science and technology may haul stone and timber but faith moves entire mountains.
I would like to encourage brother Coggins to go forth with his educational pursuits. It's never too late to learn. But I would counsel him to be mindful of his peers who are struggling, and be not hesitent to share the gospel with them. I would counsel him to not be ashamed at the simple teachings of faith the scriptures provide us with. And I would convey to him to be prayerful in his study, which is notably the philosophies of men. In no other fields will he be challenged more by the tinkling symbols and sounding brass of the ungodly. And there will be teachers lying in wait to shake his faith, and even exact vengence for his persistence to tell the truth on matters where God has spoken and the world has shut its ears.

I thought God was your boss. Is God a Christian now?

I hope your not looking at me, Brother Tommy.

the brain pretty much stops "expanding" at that point.
Unless you pump a lot of helium into it to give it buoyancy. Or, you can just stop smoking dope, listening to Nirvana, putting those little mushrooms you find out in the back yard in your spaghetti sauce, and start doing a lot of reading, writing, deep, hard thinking, and grow up.
This even helps with post nasal drip and prostate problems.

I thought that your exchange with Gaz on the homosexuality thread was remarkably patient, and that you were doing some interesting biblical exegesis (imho). You don't engage in the sort of unfettered and mindless flailing about that marks Coggins's posts as "undisciplined."
What an boatload of utter b***s***, Scratch. Of course, my exchanges with Gaz were patient. I was three steps ahead of him the entire time and no one interrupted the thread to call me names. And why? Because this one shoots back and when Loran does that, you (and others) either shove it and his religion in his face next time...or if he shuts down and refuses to engage...you (and others) call him a coward.

I'll use any language that I choose to. Thanks for the note and good luck keeping up with me.

Jersey---I have to say that I am at a loss as to why you would in any way, shape, or form compare yourself to Loran. Also, I'm unaware of any post in which I called him a "coward." (Though I would be the first to admit that it's possible.)

I haven't compared myself to Loran. I've compared the differing responses that we each receive. Try going back through some of the Off Topic threads that he started. If you don't see s*** thrown in his face first thing, I'll eat the computer I'm posting on.

Runtu wrote:Coggins7 wrote:Thanks. I did pay a little price for it though, which actually, I didn't expect. To wit, PP always brought up, and still to this day, Scratch brings up my alcoholism (usually by calling me a drunk). Well, no matter. This is a garden variety addiction and one which for which the Gospel holds the key. I don't know what I'd do without the promise and hope it extends.
I'd just like to second the idea that the cracks about your alcoholism are way out of bounds. I know how it feels to have my problems with depression used to beat me up, and I'm sorry that people have done that to you. I'm not embarrassed to say I suffer from clinical depression and take medication daily for it (thank God for chemistry), but one's personal problems should not be used as a weapon against him or her.I was born and raised in The Seattle,Washington area, and spent most of me teenage years in San Diego (that's in California Scratch). I also spent five years in Maryland, and ten in Florida. I've been here almost eight years now.
I've been to Seattle and San Diego and Maryland (and to the airport in Miami on my way to and from Bolivia), but I'm originally from the Los Angeles area.
I find the slams about his alcoholism, a fact which he freely disclosed, to be a particularly despicable tactic as I would remarks about your depression. There was a thread here not long ago where people discussed their disabilities and that sort of thing where a poster (coffee) disclosed that due to his time in service, he suffers from a variety of conditions including PTSD and borderline. Why isn't anyone taking shots at him? Because he fought in war?
For all we know, Loran fought a war too. Perhaps a different kind, but a war none the less.
I will not remain silent about it so long as this continues. It's just wrong.

Loran, "Go for it, Bro!" Every thing to gain--nothing to lose. What you 'have' will simply be added to... Thereby your 'past'--'bad-or-good'--can possitively effect your future making You a more effective person with understanding gained in the pursuit/attainment of 'higher-education' to be shared...
Blixa, thanks for your pedagogical sense of so-called "education" that it ain't :-). Rote, indoctrination, sit-up-shut-up & listen... Is not what moves humanity forward, IMSCO.
Jersey Gal, i'm with Ya! Demeaning and belittling in any way is what should be MODERATED, not the use of so called swear-words/profanity... This is not the @*$f&%F*##### Victorian era! ;-) Warm regards, Roger
