Should ex-Mormons continue to wear their garments?

I think PP was saying that doing something because you're told to do it is not a good reason (to do anything).

You hadn't said, for example, that people wear garments because they believe in their importance to the act of making a convenant with the lord, but that they do so, bottom line, simply because they are told to.

I was constantly pull the sleeves up as they would show when wearing a t-shirt.

When I wore knee length shorts I would have to reach into my pockets and grab and pull them up, especially before sitting.

Bottom line is Mormons wear garments because they are TOLD to do so.

Perhaps your garments weren't the right size? :/ I actually usually enjoyed my garments and so did/does my husband. ;) We didn't wear them because we were told to do so, but because of the joy and love of Christ. It was one of the few areas legalism had not yet reached us.

Why should there be another reason?

What happened to do it for yourself, blessings and laws on which they are predicated? What happened to doing it because you thought it would bring you happiness ultimately? Why do we need men to stand up and tell us what to do if the Holy Ghost should already tell us anyway?

Ultimately whatever we do, we must do it for our own self and that is where our first obligation truly is. Why does this have to be a bad thing? To me it's still perfectly compatible with the gospel plan.

I do it because I have some respect for authority and believe they might know more than I do. Before you make any old man jokes I'm talking about God here.

I believe most of the things I do based on authority. Everyone does.

That's not what I said. I said that when I wore my garments - I was wearing them for the love of my Savior and the love of my Heavenly Father because of the covenants I made in the temple (when I was LDS). Now, as I've struggled outside the LDS church - to wear or not wear garments - REGARDLESS of various theories of the "origins" of the temple, cermonies, or the garments - because regardless - I personally believe that I can take all of these to my Father and ask Him what His will for this is and then be obediant to it. And that is ultimatly more important to me than my personal pride.

I have been thinking about this and wondering - what are your thoughts about former temple endowed Mormons continueing to wear their garments after leaving the Church?

Quite frankly, if I ever were to leave (which I won't) I'd be wearing undergarments and it would be a "g" but not the LDS kinda "g" you are talking about. hehe....if I wasn't going commando that is.

Your question is odd, in my opinion, in that if a person left the Church why would they even consider wearing their garments? They'd hold no meaning and certainly they aren't the most appealing or comfortable in under 'wear'. So, why? Are you a former Mormon who is considering continuing the wearing of temple garments or are you just into controversial topics?

It's interesting you are considering to continue to wear the temple garment outside of your membership in the true Church. What I'm wondering is why you left the Church.....most people have problems with the temple and apparently that is not the case with you. Care to share?
