Runtu, just say no!
Seriously, once you realize how made up the church is, driving through Utah County is almost like driving through la-la land. You pass the billboards for the missionary stores and the bridal stores and all that stuff and it almost makes you sick to your stomach.
Not sure how you could deal with living in a place completely filled with folks who are living in a self-created virtual reality, and you're not part of it.

Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

But, wow, Utah County. My wife had said to me a couple of weeks ago that I should be glad I'm in Texas because it would be difficult to be in my exmo/less-active position if we were in Utah.
I'm going to pursue the opportunity, but I wonder if it's normal to have such mixed feelings about the place.
It wouldn't be difficult at all.
Shades and I and Sono Hito all live in Utah County.

If it's between Utah (a.k.a. Mormon Theocracy/Beehiveland) and your current commute (a.k.a. The Pain in the Podex).....(I can't believe I'm saying this).....go for it brotha man!

Either way, we're not officially moving for a while. My daughter will probably attend her senior year in College Station, whether I'm working in Houston or somewhere out. Plus my wife just got a job yesterday. So the commute from hell is not going to end anytime soon (unless I move to Utah).

It's always hard to turn down a good job, but Utah County would be a huge drawback ... at least for me. The place is just not 'real life,' and the LDS influence is stifling. Good luck whatever you decide to do.

I have a daughter who refuses to live in Utah, period, which kinda limits her supply of attractive eligible LDS men.
I say... don't spend your life looking for holy places to stand. Make every place you stand a holy place. So In other words, make where you are what you want it to be, no matter where you are, and that includes Provo. Personally, I found Provo to be a very pretty town with delusions of grandeur, not unlike many small towns whose economy is driven by the large college within their boundaries.

Start going to church with your wife and doing the things you know your supposed to be doing. Then moving to Utah will be much more enjoyable.

Good luck whatever you decide. But I am active and even when I did not have questions I would not want to have moved back to Utah.
