It's a big deal for two reasons: First, because it's the first time the Mormons have done it, second, because EV publishing companies were only dropping off pamphlets; they weren't buying up billboards, buying up radio slots, buying up T.V. spots, buying up magazine ads, and buying up Internet banner ads.

You're kidding, right? Billy Graham, Pat Robertson, Hank Haanegraf, Dr. James Dobson, Ted Hagard (now moved) just off the top of my head...you're out of the EV loop, Shades.

But in the eyes of the public, they only represent general Christianity, albeit the EV slant. They do not represent one single sect.

The Mormons are desperate. With this late arrival of such a internet based advertising blitz, it really shows how out of touch the LDS decision makers are with what the internet is and is not. Such a blitz would have been more effective five years ago, but most of these old fart probably had never even been on the web at that time.

This "Truth restored" campaign with Mormon.org is like an air freshener in an outhouse filled with the nasty excrement of LDS history.

Either way, it's the first time the Mormons have had such a coordinated, all-out media blitz.

They've had millions of missionaries "on the streets" for years and TV spots. I don't see where this is such a big deal however, your perspective may be different than mine.

FYI: The ministries of Graham, Robertson, Haanegraf, Dobson etc.,....DO constitute publishing companies and media organizations.

It's the first time they've integrated the Internet as a key part of their campaign (or any part of their campaign). It's also the first time the right hand has known what the left hand doeth, since missionary work has essentially existed in a vacuum until now. This blitz represents the very first coordination between all aspects of the church--media, missionaries, and members.
"Finally, for your rather strange idea that miracles are somehow linked to the amount of gay sexual gratification that is taking place would require that primitive Christianity was launched by gay sex, would it not?"

What role do you see FAIR/FARMS as taking on in all of this?

I signed onto the Mormon.org live chat site to inquire about this new campaign.

For fun I used my secret temple name, but did not reveal that until the end.

He was polite, as expected..DUH?, and asked if I had questions about TCoJCoLDS.

I said sure.

Me: Where did the temple ceremony come from?

LDS: It was revealed to modern prophets. *sends LDS.org temple link*

Me: But BYU/FARMS said it is pure masonry

LDS: I've heard about that site, and will lookup that reference later. BUT it does not matter because I prayed about it and the holy ghost told me it was from god.

Me: Sorry, but that's not good enough.

Me: Next question, where did the Book of Abraham come from?

LDS: It was revealed to the modern prophet Joseph Smith.

Me: What about it being from papyrus and being translated by Joseph Smith?

LDS: Yes, by the power of god.

Me: But the modern translation of the papyrus do not match the Book of Abraham. This proves that Joseph Smith was a fraud.

LDS: You need to pray about your feelings concerning the translations not matching. God will reveal the truth to you and tell you that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of god.

Me: So, I should ask god to help me ignore the facts of the non matching translations? Why would god do that?

LDS: If you have questions about doctrines found on Mormon.org, then I can help, as it is my job. If you have other questions outside of that, I urge you to pray about your findings.

I then asked what his secret temple name was and he said he could not reveal it because it was toooo sacred.

"BUT you know mine!" I said

"No I don't, are you a member?"

"WAS! and you know my secret name as you have been reading it for the past 10 minutes!"

He quickly wrapped things up and again told me I should pray.

I told him my wife's secret name before he finished.

Good times!

So it appears that the chat staff is being told to not discuss anything not found on Mormon.org.

Pussies.

Porter,

You are exactly right about the power of the Internet. Had I myself, relied solely on the few books in my church library regarding Mormonism (think Godmakers) or information given to me in the simplest of terms by my TBM friends, I would know nothing of the issues that I've become aware of from boards and websites.

this could also be related to the recent divorce between the church and their PR firm.

I predict this will pull in primarilly the drug addicted mental patients I experienced baptizing as a missionary. The nibbles they will recieve are steadfastly now in rehab and as soonas they start trying to kick again and are told to "find god", Mormon.org will "save their souls".

Mormons, prepare to have your wallets stolen and your chapels smelling of urine and Colt 45. Missionaries, prepare to have wide eyed downwardly mobile pedophiles looking for a new place to scope out their next victim.

Prepare for the downfall of your world.

As a non-member, I would wonder why there are two websites rather than one. The milk one Mormon.org and the meat LDS.org. Well, really, were is the beet? Not on LDS.org either is it?
