That's precisely the question you should be asking Mercury. Now, close your new issue of Hustler's Barely Legal and compose another one of your intellectually stimulating and beguiling posts tackling this burning issue for us.

Thinking about all of the time and energy I’ve spent thinking about and talking about Mormonism over the last 10 years, if that energy would have been directred towards my career instread of Mormonism, my income would probably have grown to be double what it now is.

Either my indifference curve is radically twisted towards getting more utility out of meaningless philosophical debate than out of money and influence, or I don’t go about making decisions rationally.

I’d suggest that human beings are creatures of impulse and habit more than creatures that rationally go about maximizing their utility. I think the real reason I come here is out of habit—since the cradle I’ve been intensely conditioned to think about Mormonism. I come here because I think about Mormonism and this is one of the very few places I can safely discuss it. I come here because I like socializing with the people here. I come here because I find many of the posts interesting and I like thinking about them. I come here because I enjoy articulating my positions on things. I come here because I like my views to be challenged—if I’m wrong about any of these things, I’d likemy errors to be brought to my attention. I come here because Mormonism is a fundamental part of my own history, and I’d like to understand it so that I can understand myself.
It’s relatively easy to agree that only Homo sapiens can speak about things that don’t really exist, and believe six impossible things before breakfast. You could never convince a monkey to give you a banana by promising him limitless bananas after death in monkey heaven.

You bring nothing to the table.

No Mercury, I bring nothing to the table for you or those like you. If you've followed my posts since I've been here you will clearly see that with those who engage me substantively, civilly, nad seriously, I return the favor in spades.

Example, Jersey Girl (LSD) and I used to be venomous enemies. We still would disagree on much, no doubt, but the tone and tenor of our discussions has changed 180 degrees. Those who do not respect or take me seriously will get little in return (and this is why I simply ignore the vast majority of what you, PP Coffee, Schmo, and a few others here, like GIMR, post).

The likes of you get clever puns, witty sarcasm, satirical songs, and disdain. Others get serious critical analysis and debate-and respect.

You've never had a mature, adult discussion with me for the very simple reason you have never attempted one.

Using Jersey Girl as an example shows just how off base you are. She is uninformed, wishywashy and generally a kneejerk reactionary.

As for cleverness, I have not seen anything remotely clever from you. As for the possibility of a discussion with respectability, I find your fopishness abhorrently uninteresting, ridicule being the only recourse taken against you that makes sense.

Oh, well that was a decidedly bad move on your part, Mercury. Now put your money where your keyboard is. I defy you to demonstrate by example, any instance where you believe I am:

uniformed
wishywashy
knee jerk reactionary

Be my guest and keep in mind that because I ask questions to stimulate discussion doesn't mean that I don't know the answers. By all means, knock yourself out!

Ignore Loran. He is not fully committed to the tenants of LDS Inc. With that he has no ground to stand upon.

Does this ring a bell?

Jgirl has spent more time on mo'dis boards than many members have spent attending church, yet she hasn't a clue when it comes to the "Great Apostasy"

I'd say that is VERY uniformed.

Next she will ask if there was a "Second Vision" LOL!

I asked about the Great Apostacy, brainiac, because there WASN'T one. Please have somebody read my last word of caution to Mercury to you.
