The Brackite Formerly Known as an Apologist

Post by _DonBradley »

Bracki(te)!

I've seen recent reference to your having formerly been an apologist. So, not to put you on the spot or anything, but what led to your fortunate fall from apologia? If you'd rather not answer here, I'd also be happy to hear from you privately.

In any case, I've always thought you were an interesting poster, and one quite open to non-standard views; and would be curious to hear more about your journey through and (apparently) from Mormonism.

Hi There Don,

I used to be an LDS Apologist Posting on a couple of Evangelical Christian Boards many, many years ago. I was even somewhat of an LDS Apologist when I began posting on the Zion Lighthouse Message Board several years ago. I will answer to you later on privately about my move from an LDS Apologist, to somewhat of an LDS critic now. Thanks!

Why not do it publicly????????????????????????????????

Some here are trying to skin me alive for being a TURNCOAT (cough, puke), but it looks like I could start a club! Come to think of it, I do remember you being an apologist. Will you deny it three times before the cock crows? Okay just joking. I see you have admitted it. How come Scratchie boy never picked up on this? I think I'll go do some "turncoat hunting".

You are a turncoat, you curse at one, then you curse at the other. We ridicule you, because you spit in all directions, and it's funny.

I'm pretty good at spitting too, because I know what to spit on.

I think there are more people like that than people realize. Some choose to keep it on the down-low, and I can certainly understand why.

Chris Tolworthy was the first notable LDS apologist to break ranks, but he abaondoned the online scene altogether, so nobody really picked on him. Another guy nobody seems to have paid much attention to is Mike Reed. He was responsible for writting up a very detailed piece on temple symbolism several years ago for FAIR. I might be wrong but I think he is an atheist now. There is also an online friend who is currently serving as a bishop, who openly criticizes certain aspects of the Church.

And then of course there is me.

The apologist who decided to play devil's advocate for a while, only to see how eye-opening it was when his own turned on him; "apologetic cannabilism" as Metcalfe described it. I spent a good year and a half over there trying to convince them that I was not attacking the Church; that I was only demanding that we address the Book of Abraham issues openly and honestly. But they were hell bent on branding me an outcast, wolf in sheep's clothing, apostate, etc., to make it easier to dismiss me as a nuisance.

Seriously, that apologetic club did all the work as far as I'm concerned.

Chris is still around. He hangs out over on FLAK and is working on finding someone to take over all his stuff he had worked on, last I read some things over there.

And then of course, we can't forget Darrick Evenson. His book was like gold for missionaries while I was serving my mission in Anaheim.
