I think Jersey Girl will be back. She doesn't post on Kevin's BB, so if she leaves this board there will always be the option of MADB, which might not be her ideal option. I, for two, Jersey Girl, would like you to keep posting. I'd miss you telling me off from time to time, because I never know whether you're going to praise or pulp. That's what I like about your posts.

Well, that solves it. Apparently Mercury is willing to delete it himself if he is asked, so moderatorial action is no longer required. THANK YOU, Mercury!

One thing I should point out in case you don't know: Jeremy Irons is a movie star. Guy Sajer is using a picture of the actor, Jeremy Irons, as his avatar, which he jokingly tried to pass off as himself. I'm a married woman who thinks an actor is handsome. I think lots of actors are handsome. What's the big deal about that?

Also, I am in agreement with you and Moksha regarding Jersey Girl. I wish she'd stay. I value her input on this board.

Yes it was over the top, yes it was a tad bit pornographic. And yes, I have been giving you the lions share of crap.

Happy now?

Thank you, Mercury. I hope Jersey Girl doesn't leave.

By the way, Shades, your sig line is in very poor taste. I'll delete all of my offensive posts when all of the others delete their offensive posts. If Merc were to delete his offensive posts and comments he'd have about three lines left in total. This could go on forever. Face it, on a free speech board no one is protected from anything. It's sort of like - Iraq.

Agreed about Jeremy Irons. And about the real Guy Sager. Although it's been a few years (5? 6? Good Lord... 7!). Long ago, oh so long ago, I used to visit Utah a couple of times a year and hang out with the Fringe. Good times, and interesting people... Froggie, Trixie, Peggy, RangerRon, Zenobia, Ed, little Sassy, Addict, Walker, Black and his wife, and one memorable evening, Froggie brought Patton. What a riot. Those were the days. I'm sure he doesn't remember, but I do.

I know who Jeremy Irons is. I don't know who "Guy Sajer" is. I also know who Tom Cruise is, and I happen to think of his ex-wife in the same way you think of Jeremy Irons. The point I'm making is that while insults are flung liberally here, no one likes to be insulted, nor to have their religious beliefs insulted. It may be "fun" to you to mock Mormons, or the Mormon religion. Many others do not find it funny at all. It may be "therapeutic" for you, but it insults and offends others. You'll be amazed at how thin-skinned some become when the tables are turned, and they understand what it feels like to be insulted.

Jersey Girl is a good example of someone who can offer criticism without being offensive. I think she still believes in Christianity, and no doubt this influences her views, which is also why she's probably offended at crudity.

I went ahead and split Mercury's comment off into the Telestial Forum anyway. Mercury, if you're asked to delete that comment after all, you'll find it in its own thread there.

The problem occurs when some believers are so enmeshed with their belief system that any criticism of that belief system feels like a personal insult or "mocking". Then they feel justified in personally attacking the critic, who actually did not insult or attack the believer at all.

If criticism of one's beliefs feels like a personal attack which warrants personal attacks in return, then I would suggest that person stay away from boards that are specifically designed to allow criticisms of their beliefs. Unless, of course, they actually enjoy personally attacking people who reject their religious beliefs, and MAD is merely a guise to allow for that sort of venting, in a way that circumvents the natural guilt that usually results from personally attacking other people. (hey, another RfM similarity!)

JG---my fellow Goddess....you MUST keep posting. Who else will help me torture Bond, Jason, and the other resident man candy we have captured...er...invited to our room at the Shady Acres God/Goddess villa?

;)

As a general point of reference, folks....If there is a post that you are concerned about, the fastest way to get a Mod input is to PM one of us. (i.e....me, Bond, or Shades). When you PM us, please include a link of the thread where the post was made so we can reference it easily.

Thanks, all!

:)
