Yep. He'd probably boast that he was the most humble person he knew.

I think there is some evidence Joseph Smith may have suffered from a mood disorder, perhaps a form of bipolar. His son David had bipolar (although they called it something else then) and was institutionalized most of his adult life because of it. One researcher also states that he found evidence of other descendants of the Smith family who have had bipolar, as well. Bipolar is strongly hereditary, so these facts alone increase the chance Joseph Smith had the disorder as well. Then when you factor in his escalating grandiosity and periods of intense "marrying", the chance is even stronger, in my opinion.
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

Very interesting. I hadn't heard that.

Course, I don't really believe in bipolar. I think them bears should choose either men bears or women bears and stick to 'em.

If I remember correctly, Robert Anderson addresses some of this in his book Inside The Mind Of Joseph Smith.

Address of the Prophet—His Testimony Against the Dissenters at Nauvoo.
(Sunday, May 26, 1844)

... They have got wonderful things in the land of Ham.

How true! The land of Ham has produced many wonderful things--like bacon, mmmm, bacon.

So did Moses when he failed about to give the people water. I've sounded like a pompous jerk more than once....and according to friends some of those times were while I was behind a pulpit. I think far too much is read into this comment.

People make mistakes while speaking. I have a quote from my Mission President where he accidentally claimed to have once been a Relief Society President and one from an Apostle where Satan told Peter to follow Christ (he got two characters mixed up for a minute).

This is true, but Joseph Smith' statement needs to be taken into context of his other statements and behaviors.. having himself crowned king, running for president, marrying quite a few women in a very short time.
