The LDS are here because Shades wants us here. Without the LDS on this site, the site would head into the garbarge rather quickly. Why do you think that there are different degrees of glory on this board? Come on PP, you are smarter than that to ask such a question. The LDS make this board. The critic left to his own devices would soon trash this board.
Let me give you an example. On critics boards where no contra opinion is allowed (RFM and the Postmo site) the board becomes nothing more than a circle jerk of each poster stroking the other to enhance the feel good state of mind.
Simply put, we make this board, the LDS that is. Next question?

I did not ask why this board matters to Mormon hypocrites, K?why me wrote:The LDS are here because Shades wants us here. I would say it would be accurate to say there is quite a bit of anti-Mormonism here. I could understand why someone would want to limit their time here if they were easily offended. There are certain things I freak out about that are sacred to me... I don't visit boards that ridicule these things. Not every poster here does that, but many, many do.
I imagine they lurk here because they want to see what is said about them. I wish they'd post more actually. I find much of what they say compelling... and when all else fails I can certainly judge a lot about someone's character on these boards by how they treat others. The most impressive thing about MAD, to me, was so many people on there that were good, honest, caring people. I was actually pretty overwhelmed by "meeting" so many people in one place online that exemplified what I consider to be Christian brotherhood. Obviously there are some stinkers over there. No doubt about that!
I think if more could get over the initial distaste and would post it would actually help the cause of LDS. I have to say when I see someone making an ass of themselves, even if I would normally agree with them, and another person being honorable and respectful I'll usually favor the person being upright in their dealings with fellow humans. If nothing else I'll listen respectfully to what they have to say.

I'm not sure what the answer is, but I will say it's obvious this board has a very significant number of lurkers who read posts. I've posted on a couple of pretty active boards, and normally they would show around ten times the number of "views versus actual posts. For example, a thread with 23 posts would often have 230 views. But on this board, that ratio is not applicable, and threads commonly have 50% more views than they would on a "normal" board. (sometimes almost twice - for example, 20 views per post, so a thread with 23 posts would have 400+ views)
So despite the protests that this board is pornography, filth, and a cesspool, apparently quite a few folks, most likely from MAD, still can't resist regular reading here.

We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

That's funny on a couple of levels. ;)
And true! The first "controversial" book I read was Mormon Enigma. I was so shocked by it I think I read it three times in a row. I just couldn't process it all the first time. Then I went on to Mormon Polygamy, and after that, there was no stopping me. I think for a good two years I read nothing but Mormon history books (some outright "anti", some "new historian"). It really is addictive. For one thing, it's just a gripping tale with all the "hooks" - sex, power, God, murder, etc. But, even more than that, I think it is the drive to uncover whatever "truth" we can.

Why? Just for the Telestial Kingdom of it.
That's General Leo. He could be my friend if he weren't my enemy.

Lol... No, Brackite is a critic---in particular, he is a critic of the Book of Abraham.
In answer to the OP, I would say that part of the reason they are interested is because we say things about them. Another reason is that many of the best critics regularly post here.
Hi Mister Scratch,
Yes, I am a critic of the Book of Abraham. Here are two links to two Discussion Thread that I started here quite a while ago, that are very critical of the Book of Abraham Translation along with being very critical of 'the "missing papyrus" theory for the Book of Abraham,' here on the Mormonism Discussion Board Forum:
