Abrahamic Tests.... Nonsense!
I find the very idea of an Abrahamic test completely odd.
We have a man who was willing to kill his son so he could gain a reward in heaven.
Personally, I think Abraham failed the test.
I think to pass the test Abraham would have had to say something like.... "No God. I will not kill my child. I will sacrifice my place in heaven so my son can live. (Not to mention obey the commandment not to kill)."
I can't figure out why Abraham is held out to be such a wonderful man because he was willing to kill his son.
We hear of men giving their wives to Joseph Smith as an "Abrahamic test."
Wouldn't passing the test be more like... "No Joseph, I will not give my wife to you. I love her and have promised to be her husband. I would rather die than give her to another."
The whole Abrahamic test thing gets me dizzy!

If God wants me to kill a child he better come down and tell me. Of course Andrea Yates thought he did that. So, I'd still probably chalk up a visit from God as a really trippy shroom trip and tell him he better do it himself cause I'm going to go visit a padded room.

What?????
Heh. Yeah, Book of Mormon's got it.
I was being sarcastic. The TBMs defend abraham, yet vilify Tal.
WK: "Joseph Smith asserted that the Book of Mormon peoples were the original inhabitants of the americas"
Will Schryver: "No, he didn’t." 3/19/08
Still waiting for Will to back this up...

If God ever tells me to kill one of my kids- I would just say "send me to hell right now, because I'm not doing it."

Hi TD, you point out just one--which is enough--of the absurdities of the whole Abrahamic dynasty. This is the last, and least, of all clans that i want to identify with. From Ab, we go to Isaac--no better. Then to Jacob, if not worse...
To hear some spirtitual-deficient talk about "Father Abraham" does more that make me "dizzy"... It makes me gag on the whole Judeo-Christian misrepresentation of the "Two-New-Commandments." Warm regards, Roger

I honor Abraham for it. Another thing to note is that Abraham believed. He knew that God wasn't just doing this for him it was for his son too. It was for the best all-around. He believed that. I've noticed that real believers take death less seriously as well. He was being asked to move Issac on to bliss. If I were Abraham I would wonder whether God was saving Issac from a trial he would fail or if he was needed on the other side of the veil.
The sacrifice was in similitude to Christ's. I have heard people accuse God of cruelty regarding what happened to his only begotten son. Abraham's trial was easier than God's.
It is also important to remember that Abraham had a promise that Issac would carry his lineage...but he had no children. How could he figure that? If it was in similitude and Issac was to play the part of Christ couldn't he have wondered if God was going to restore him to life in the same way?

Uh-huh. You probably also like to catch and release and think the fish are enjoying it. Just because you don't mind being jerked around ...
