One can not in good conscience compare the MTC to bootcamp. Not in process, not in purpose and not in the ultimate utility of the product.

The MTC meets it purpose just like boot camp. It cranks out Mormon missionaries to go out and convert people. Like it or not that is the purpose of LDS missionaries and the MTC makes young men and women such. It is like a boot camp

Once again Jason we see eye to eye yet make different conclusions. Ever wonder why that is?

No need to wonder. I am much brighter, smarter and certainly more rational then you are. :-)

Big diff Jace. DUH?
MTC preps young unwitting impressionable minds to be pushy salesmen for the oragnization that you defend. IF they fail no one dies.

If a marine is not paying attention while under fire, lives will be lost.

Big difference, one is pretend, one is for real.

Hey dip stick. I have a son that is one of those killing machine Marines. He has been on tour in Iraq once and is headed back in September. I think I am a bit more aware or what it means then you do and I am damn proud of him. So kiss my butt idiot.

I know what the training is for, lighten up.

No where in my post did I dis your son. Men and women who serve in the military will always have my adoration. They are truly in the service of their fellow man, unlike the dweebs on missions who are duped into thinking that they are in service of their fellow man when it really is in service of LDS Inc.

I was in the Army, and understand why the discipline and regiment is structured like it is and was just relating my experience of what the drill Sargents told us when anyone complained. One repeated remark I remember well was, "One day in a far away battlefield, you just might thank me for almost killing you for screwing up here."

by the way, give that Marine a pat of support on the back from another thankful veteran and citizen.

Yes Jason lack of sleep. That was one of the most potent forms of torture as a missionary. Couple that with the intense boredom of constant Church and I've concluded that there are more reasons for missionaries acting crazy than being teenagers. I was a quite a sober and faithful teenager, but that place with its guilt trips, false doctrines, and 24/7 Church drove me nuts. I'm still a little nuts today due to this experience.

I hope the Church gets back to the idea of only missionaries that want go for no other reason than they want to save souls will go. If they want to make it a part of young mans eternal progression to serve a mission, than preach it that way, but don't preach that way as a bait to get them into it at first and then tell them later that if they have any other motive than pure altruism they shouldn't be there, but should be sent home dishonorably.

Mormonism seems full of bait and switch doctrines. They'll tell you one thing to get you to sign up and then tell you another thing once you've signed your life away to them.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

If anyone doubts that the MTC is cult-like, then recall the classic tale of the cinnamon rolls:

"Finally, for your rather strange idea that miracles are somehow linked to the amount of gay sexual gratification that is taking place would require that primitive Christianity was launched by gay sex, would it not?"

I understand you were not dissing my son. I was being firm though, that I KNOW that military training is a life and death situation. And thanks, I will do as you ask when my son is home in late August.

I am sorry but if I recall it was lights out at 10:30 and up at 6:30. That is not lack of sleep.

I agree. I do not think it should be every young man should go. I think it should be encouraged but ultimatly the young man should only go if he wants to and believes he is going out to preach what he believes. I think there are a lot of young men that go that should not.

Listen, jason. DUDE. Marines produce humans that are efficient at doing something with high utility. They kill those who pose a risk to our way of life. The MTC does not produce those who need to be able to unquestioningly bow to the churc...hey wait a minute!

Jason is right! Well, at least on the utility (at least to the Mormon elite).

As far as your logic and brainpower, your intelligent. Are you smarter than me? Lets hear from peers on that one. What you interpret as illogic is the mask of satire that I wear. If you were better than I am you would cease with the mindgames you lay with yourself and confront the economic demons you pay ten percent to every month.

Listen, Merc, DUDE! I know this. I am impacted by it personally. My son has shared his personal experiences with Marine boot camp. I really think I understand this. My point is that the methods used are to indoctrinate the Marine to so what the Marine wants them to do.

So to in the MTC. They are indoctrinated to so what they Church wants them to do AND to do what they committed to do. Neither are cult like or maybe both are.

What you post here is not satire. It is mostly vitriol.

Only from your perspective which we cannot be certain is correct.
