hilarious. guess what was waiting for me on my workbench today when I got home? It's the vision of Zion come true, the worker drones buzzing around in a flurry as if they were trying to complete the Death Star. "Those workers understood the value of honoring President Hinckley" All is in honor of Lord Hinckley, "No one...wanted to be the one who had to say, 'I didn't get my doors hung, so we couldn't have the dedication on the prophet's birthday." Of course not! That guy would be the Admiral Mottie of LDS contractors, and the only thing Hinckley would be left to say, before ending that man's career, would be, "I find your lack of faith disturbing."

LOL!

For those of you who don't seem to get my point, I invite you to reread Gadianton's comments, which summed them up so well. I don't resent the church building buildings. And it's not even resentment since it didn't cost me one dime. It's amusement. Amusement at the image of the modern LDS church becoming the great and spacious building. When the LDS church gave up polygamy, and decided to go whole-hog into buying their ticket into mainstream America, it sealed its fate. It's building MALLS, for heaven's sake, and glorious buildings to name after their leaders. LOL!!!

Next on the agenda - a gold plated statue worthy of the man!!!! Or heck, the LDS church can make it PURE gold!!

And you with your "proclaimed " "objectivity". You are nothing but a mocker of Mormonism.

guy sajer wrote:One day maybe they'll even get around to tearing down the old decrepid Knight Magnum Hall, where, I believe but am not sure, our good friend Dr. P has his offices. That one is long overdue also,

I do not have my office there, and never have.

But, you'll be happy to know, the Knight Mangum Building -- note the spelling -- is in fact slated to come down.

guy sajer wrote:Dr. P needs a nicer office where he can pass the day away posting on internet discussion boards, writing Mormon fluff pieces, constructing arguments of how polyandry is actually wonderful and Joseph Smith was a true prophet for restoring it, preparing his "rock star" speeches to adoring fans in the Varsity Theatre, and generally not doing productive academic work.

Although I'm not by any stretch a mental health professional, I understand that you suffer from a compulsion to comment on my academic career every week or so even though you don't actually know enough to judge it. Still, you ought, perhaps, to avoid making public pronouncements based upon your hallucinations: Although I'm sure you think you've read it, and may even imagine that you're holding it in your hands at this very moment (while you're issuing orders to the cavalry at Waterloo, perhaps), I have never written anything even remotely connected to the subject of polyandry. Your other pronouncements on me are typically just as loosely tied to the world of empirical reality, but they're not usually this obviously bogus.

Incidentally, your reference to my allegedly "adoring fans in the Varsity Theatre" -- you could have made your point more forcefully if you had known that I gave four lectures last week to much larger audiences (1500-1600) in the Wilkinson Center ballroom -- suggests that you may have been something of a flop as a lecturer. Would jealousy perhaps account, at least in part, for your animus? If so, take comfort: Immanuel Kant was apparently fairly dull, too, and he was very nearly as brilliant as you are.

But wait! I was there to view the adoring fans in action on Friday in the varsity theatre. I spoke to Guy about it briefly over the phone after class let out at 5:30, and I am assuming this is why he is mentioning it here...and not his overactive jealous bug. As luck would have it, I have also seen Dr. Sajer speak at the WLC in front of a large crowd. I don't think he got as many oooohs and ahhhhhhhs as DCP from his lecture, but it wasn't due to the quality of the lecture. And he is far better looking, I might add. Not that this makes any difference to anyone, but I always give points for presentation. ;)

I'm going back down to Provo right now and won't be back until 11:00 pm tonite. I did promise the good Dr. Sajer a write-up of what I learned in your class, DCP, and I always make do on my promises.

Good grief.

An immediate telephone report followed by a written summary?

I'm hoping this is a joke.

Otherwise, I'm afraid I may now be dealing with Scratch Three. (Have I somehow stumbled into the internal message board of a psychiatric ward?)

It may be time to change my telephone number, buy a shredder, get a Doberman Pinscher, sign up for security service, and hire bodyguards.

Heh. Don't flatter yourself, Dr. Peterson. I'm no stalker. My SIL travels from out of state every year to go to Education Week and she insisted I join her for a class. I think it is kind of amusing that she expends so much time and money to come all the way out here to study Isaiah, but I am not one to dissuade another from expanding their horizons. I put her off until the very last day of the week and she paid for me to attend because she wanted the company. We chose your class because I was curious if you would mention Asherah in the material.

She enjoyed your class very much. Although she had no idea about much of what you were referring to, and I spent half the class whispering in her ear about the concept of theosis and Logos. Given the discussions I heard as I was headed out the door, my SIL was not the only one whose head was talked over. But I don't really think they minded. Because even the illusion of connection to these great early christian saints was so spiritually mind boggling that they didn't really care about content that much.

Oh. And I gave Guy a call because we are good friends and have been such for nearly a decade. I'm sure it would stroke your ego to no end and feed into this tremendous us vs them complex you've got, but I am afraid I will have to disappoint. And you can be sure next year I'll be sitting in on one class of Isaiah instead of yours.

Just another thought on Hinckley and all the tribute. I briefly mentioned at the end that the first and the last tool to work on the building were branded with the Hinckster's name. But the article said that Hinckley had donated a number of tools that were apparently his, and that those tools were used throughout the project. It's like, metaphorically, he personally gets credit for building it too on top of everything else.
Lou Midgley 08/20/2020: "...meat wad," and "cockroach" are pithy descriptions of human beings used by gemli? They were not fashioned by Professor Peterson.

LM 11/23/2018: one can explain away the soul of human beings...as...a Meat Unit, to use Professor Peterson's clever derogatory description of gemli's ideology.

I want to be clear in regards to what amused me so much aobut this article. It was the aggrandizement, the grandiosity - a building FIT for the name!! But, as I pondered it, really, the LDS have always aggrandized their prophets (which has led to some accusing them of "worshipping" their prophets, which isn't true). Praise to the man!! Second only to Jesus!!

All that has really changed is that the LDS church is rich enough now to build huge buildings as a sign of their idolization.
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.
