I have read the Book of Mormon over 30 times. I couldn't put it down for a few years of my life. As a family, around the breakfast table every morning, but Saturdays and Sundays, we read the Book of Mormon, Ray. So.....

Where in the Book of Mormon is it justified to kill people if they call my kid bad names? Was it Alma, or 2nd Nephi or.....?

Seriously, I want to know which scripture you use to justify that position. That's a CFR, Ray. Along with the other CFR that you are trying to play dodge ball around.

What about the dress standards for the women?

Our Church is the only Christian Church I have attended where women are required to wear dresses.

When I attended a Catholic Church with one of my friends not too long ago, she said it was perfectly fine to wear dress pants.

I can understand not wearing jeans to Church, but I don't see anything irreverent or disrespectful about wearing nice dress pants. I have several Pendleton dress suits which are dressier in appearance than many of my skirts.

I hate nylons and I hate high heels. It's one of the things I absolutely dread about Sunday...particularly when you have a toddler climbing all over you, and you feel like you've been through a war half-way through Sacrament Meeting, anyway! LOL

Of course, they have loosened some of the dress requirement. When I was in Mutual, we were required to wear dresses on Wednesday night. We also had to wear dresses to the youth dances.Now, the kids can wear nice school clothes to both.

Hi Liz, i know this is going back a few days but i think you MIGHT have, "...women are required to wear dresses..." more regionalized than the practice/custom really is. I think You might be influenced by local "peer pressure"... :-)

I've visited Wards/Branches in different parts of Canada & the U.S. and have found a growing # of women, young and old, wearing pants. You sound to be some what liberated :-)??? Why not notch it up a bit??? Assert your "Free agency" to move the mode along? Your daughters and "Sisters" will be "Eternally" grateful ;-) Strut-yer-stuff in style-&-comfort! Another exmo who has read the Book of Mormon 30 times and now thinks it's trash. Wonders never, never cease! LOL!

The RFMers were the same. There was even a contest to see who had read the Book of Mormon the most. Twenty times was about the norm. Well if there were a more gullible, treacherous people on earth, I haven't found them. Now they call the Book of Mormon "trash". This is like eating pizza for 20 years then saying it's the worst meal you ever ate. Makes perfect sense. Then, exmos always make "perfect sense". Exmos are a real funny lot. A more dunderhead lot of bonobos would be hard to find.

Well, I must admit, I have read a lot better fiction in my time. I just finished a Murakami novel. It was just a tad bit better in the imagination department.

As history, the Book of Mormon is worse than trash.

As fiction, it is pathetic, in its own right.

As a spiritual guide, if you read it too closely, one might think Mormons are some kind of evangelical sect.

It has some ok stuff in it for living. But, it so contradicts itself, at times, with terrible examples of how to live, that, yes, let's just call it trash. It is indeed a companion to the Bible in that sense.

After, actually. I was out of the Church about four years. If you knew the facts behind it you'd have a different view, but then I may be hoping too much. My eldest son was playing basketball near the neighbour's house, and he told my son that if he didn't stop he would "thrash him". So they moved away but the ball accidentally hit his front door, and he came out again walking to my son, who ran inside to tell me. All the neighbour had to do was complain to me, which he didn't. So I walked over to his place and confronted him on his front step, telling him that if he touched my son he would cop a mouthful of knuckles. I turned to walk away after warning him and he was about to lay into me from behind with a blow, and my son shouted "Dad, watch out!" after which I turned around and saw him about to hit, and I threw a punch to his face then several in the ribs. Is that so atrocious? I don't go around starting fights, but when it comes to my children I'll do what I have to.
