Brigham Young was noted to have said that when Joseph Smith died he was not wairing his garments.
Is this something discussed with regularity? That perhaps the garments would have protected Smith?
No, I only found it when reading extensively on Brigham Young. I also heard it once in an Institute Class when I was 24 in passing. I imagine you could go your whole life in the Church and never hear of this.
What I remember is that Joseph and Hyrum removed their garments because it was hot or because they knew they were going to die depending on what source you use. Joseph recommended to the other two that they also remove them. While I'm unsure if John Taylor was wearing them but everything I've read says Willard Richards was wearing his. I know of Mormons who have died violent and unexpected deaths while wearing their garments. It is not an impervious shield. The Temple explains what it is.

If your wifes a firefighter (or if anyone on this forum is a firefighter) I would think that it would be prudent to ware the firefighter's gear, regardless of this anadotal testimonial.

Why, even wearing garments with holes is considered disrespectful.
Do you believe this has crossed the line from respect to a level of worship?
Do you really think that at the judgement day, God will say to you, "Well, everything looks pretty good. You lived a good life, you served others, you.......hmmmmmm.....what's this?? Not only did you wear holey garments......ha ha ha...get it, holey...holy....brummppp....Not only did you wear holey garments, but you threw them on the FLOOR??? I'm sorry, but entry to the CK is denied."
Thoughts?
No TBMs do not worship garments. Thread is now done.

But no, I know of no LDS person whose respect of their garments is remotely close to worship.
How would you describe it then? Just asking...

I just wear them. When I'm done they go in the hamper. They get sorted with the whites. After being washed they are folded and put in the drawer.
Nehor,
I could count on less than one hand how many garment threads I've participted in, so I'll ask you a question and you don't have to answer it if you don't feel like it.
Why wear them at all?
Mormons believe they represent the covenants they made in the temple. The marks are also there to remind LDS of certain religious things. They idea of putting on this as part of one's clothing every day is to make the religious symbolism of the temple an integral part of the believers life.

Why would he have to wonder? The symbols are explained in the temple. The symbols are the whole purpose of wearing the garments to begin with.

Scottie, I'm curious. What was the impetus for starting this thread?
Do you really know TBM's who take garment wearing to this extreme in their thought patterns?
I guess my husband is going to outer darkness because he has quite a few pairs of garments that are close to threadbare. LOL
It's always amazing to me that people can really take some of these things to the extreme.
