I'm getting the 13 inch MacBook...The white one. I thought it was pretty. ;)
I wanted something smaller that was portable.
It has an Intel Duo Core processor, and 1GB of memory. It also has Microsoft Office for Mac pre-installed so I can file share when I need to. What really sold me on the Mac was the amount of cool music software that will really help me with my Music Studio home business.
With the educational discount and a $500 line of credit that Apple offered me, I only had to pay $709 up front. I was able to charge that on my AMEX card, and I get a double paycheck next month, so financially, I was able to justify it.

Let me know if you have any questions setting up your studio. I do all my recording on a mac-mini using the pre-installed garageband software (it's pretty user friendly and it's part of iLife...no need to spend big bucks on a recording software package). You just need to get an audio interface and a few decent microphones and you're up and rolling. PM me if you have any questions.

The garage band software looks really fun. I'm excited to play with it.
Also, the Macbook comes with an internal microphone as well.
Have you ever recorded with it?
Just curious as to the quality.
I need to get a good quality microphone...any suggestions?
You can record stuff on garageband using the built-in internal mic. You won't get the best quality out of it, though. If you want to use regular microphones (like Shure SM57's) or condenser mics, you need an audio interface. An audio interface is a peripheral that attaches to your computer through either a USB or Firewire port. I use a Presonus Firebox that uses a Firewire connection. It has two XLR mic inputs and some quarter-inch inputs as well. It also has "phantom power" which is necessary if you choose to record with condenser microphones. M-audio makes some less expensive interfaces. You should also get a midi-controller...it's basically a small keyboard that plugs into your computer via USB connection. This allows you to play and record all the built-in instruments that come with garageband (it's much easier than trying to use the mouse). I bought an M-Audio one for around $100.
What do you want to use the microphone for (i.e. vocals, acoustic instruments, amps)?
