Not complaining, just asking why something that was never lost had to be restored? A normal question if you take as truth that these guys were here ministering through the centuries. They all had the 'keys' by virtue of their callings. If so, why would there really be a need for a restoration?
Yeah. Unless the Immortals were planning to operate covertly and ordain everyone personally Priesthood had to be restored to mortal hands. Also they had to give the keys to somebody unless they were going to run the Church themselves.

Nehor, you are right on this. They would have to give it to someone. So... why didn't they? Why the teaching that it was Lost from the earth and had to be restored when it was never lost in the first place.
All members of the 12 have the authority and with four of them here it never left, was never lost, was never removed. All the authority was here continuously... so why the need for 'restoration' of something that was still here?
They could have given the keys to someone, even Joseph Smith. They were never mentioned in the early days of the Church, were they? If not, why not? Wouldn't it be normal for those still here who held all that authority to contact the new guy and pass it on to him?
Did Joseph ever claim to have talked to or visited with ANY of these four? If they are really here it would seem natural that they would be a big part of any 're-organization', much less a 'restoration'.

Joseph did mention John coming to him and giving the keys along with Peter and James. It would make sense that those three would come instead of the Three Nephites as the Book of Mormon gives the Apostles in the Old World preeminence.
As to why they waited so long, I have no idea. Possible the Church could never have survived in the intervening years. Maybe God waited for other reasons. He hasn't told me.
