WARNING!! Hiking on Sunday will cause Lou Gehrigs disease!!

Post by _Scottie »

Over at MAD, the thread "Sabbath and Boats": http://www.mormonapologetics.org/index.php?showtopic=27920&st=20#

Hoops22 wrote:My family and I skipped church a while back to go on a hike and see some flora and fauna. You will have a tough time convincing me this was Sabbath breaking - since I don't even know what that means.

LifeOnaPlate wrote:I don't like skipping Church because partaking of the sacrament is something I honestly look forward to each week. I renew my covenant, taking upon me the name of Christ. No hike through the woods is really more important than that for me, personally.

Hammer wrote:I find the rapid growth in health issues among the saints a little worrysome-- one of the blessings promised through Isaiah 58 was that health would be given to those who kept the Sabath.

Hoops22 wrote:Maybe it's because they don't go hiking enough on Sundays.

Hammer wrote:A hiking friend of mine went inactive about a year ago and spent his Sundays riding his motorbike and hiking on Sundays.

He is now bed ridden with Lou Gerricks disease. A literal vegatable. Any other suggestions?

I read that and stared at my screen, jaw agape, in utter disbelief!! Hammer can not be a real person, can he? I mean, NOBODY really thinks that way, do they??

Please say he isn't real. Please??

Sadly, I think he may be. He's been tempered lately - I think the mods got tired of him tying everything to Satan so his daily posting may have been limited.

You only need to look a little further down the thread to see similar thinking:

AKS wrote:Not to derail the thread, but hammers story of his hiking friend struck a note with me. My sister has a wonderful daughter that was born blind. My mom had the nerve to tell her that the blindness was caused because the little girl was born out of wedlock and my sister was living with the father in sin. shok.gif I know this line of reasoning is not confined to Mormonism, but it's still agrivating to hear since my family is so close to the church.

And I can recall several conversations from my church-going days with a similar sentiment.

I'll share what I responded to him in that thread....

Hammer.........I don't even know what to say to you.....You are truly a lost cause.

Just make sure when he finally passes to write a nice sympathy card to the family.

"Roses are red
Violets are blue
Your husband and father broke the sabbath
So he died of Lou Gehrigs disease.

All the best,
Hammer"

I think he was responding facetiously to Hoops post that insinuated that the lack of physical activity on Sunday was leading to health problems among the Saints. It was witty (or witless as wit is in the ear of the listener) banter. I don't think Hammer was serious.

Normally I would agree with you, but since we're talking about Hammer, I honestly think he was serious.

Oh, surely I am done for. Many times have I bolted after Sacrement meeting to trade Elders Quorum and SS for a fast and free ride through the woods, spotting owls, red fox, and fawns.

A motorist will hit me, and an ambulance with my name on it will usher me away.....

Any other sabath cyclists, I think there could be one more! :)

I'm just curious now how you get your name on an ambulance. I don't cycle anymore. I hated it on my Mission and told my body that if it would endure these two years I would never make it do it again.

Your in luck! A senior type mission doesn't require bicycle riding. So you should be good to go for another two years! Things are lookin' up. :)

I stopped looking at MAD cause it was giving me stupid tumors in the left hemisphere of my brain. After reading some of the threads that have been brought over here for discussion I think I feel another one popping up.
