If you read Under The Banner of Heaven you will discover that both of the Lafferty brothers are perfectly sane in the clinical sense. They are not crazy in any medically defined way, unless you consider the religious delusions known as "faith" and "personal revelation" to be mental illnesses.

Trying to sweep the Lafferty's crimes under the rug using the "mental illness" angle doesn't square with the facts. They are sane men who honestly believed God commanded them to kill a mother and her child, and still believe it fervently to this day.

They don't sound sane. Of course, I would still claim it. Sitting on death row would lead such a claim to stick for a while in hope of a reprieve. But as I said, there are exceptions to the rule.

Yeah Scottie, why do you think this is blind obedience? Blind obedience is when you do something for no other reason than you were commanded. The thing with Adam is obviously different.

For the Adam/God relationship I would prefer 'blind trust' and not blind obedience.

Now this makes sense!!

As you can see, Mormons are not blindly and obediently following the leaders. I do believe that it becomes one of interpretation.

Yeah, if "blind trust" means doing what someone else tells you to do without question then I would agree.

Scottie,

You're not attending church again because you've fallen for a Mormon, are you?!

If you are, I swear I'm going to slap some sense into you when I'm in Utah for Exmo Conference!

Please say you're not completely out of your mind and dating an active Mormon chic...

LOL.

I posted this same thread on MAD and got a stern warning for my terrorist reference.

Oh, my God!!!

Scottie, you ARE dating a Mormon, aren't you? Are you out of your mind?

You're growing into such a fresh, crisp cucumber and now you're dipping yourself in the salty brine of Mormonism? You're turning yourself into mush! A mushy, soggy pickle! Ewww!

Stop it! Do you really want to end up marrying this woman in the Temple and being forced to go to church every week, paying ten percent of your income to a church you do not believe is true? How can you do that? Does this girl know you're an apostate and don't believe anymore?

I think you're doing yourself and this girl a grave disservice, Scotty. But I'm just some woman on an internet bulletin board, so my advice is probably worth what you paid for it. :)

Well, in actuallity, I am NOT dating this girl. She does know I'm an apostate, which is why I'm not dating her. But I'm trying to fake like I'm interested again so she will date me.

But, c'est la vie, it's all over as of yesterday. We "broke up"...as much as 2 people that aren't actually dating can break up...

I think I could handle going to meetings, but the tithing and garments are the 2 things that I just don't think I could do. I would have to vomit a little in my mouth every month when I made that check out.
