Watch Out! your daughters friend might be the Devil.

while doing a little research on Lorenzo Snow and Company (yes, Minnie Jensen Snow was sixteen when she married Lorenzo, but didn't move in until two years later pg 55), I came across this young woman's journal article written by Susa Young Gates. It says on page 63:

"the modern tempter is too often clothed like one of her girlfriends, or like a round half-dozen of, or this tempter may be a relative; her own mother has been know to assume this character, and even the family physician at times masquerades as part of the chorus. Now-a-days, too many do the work for his Satanic Majesty and sing this refrain: "wait a year or two, or five before you assume the responsiblities of motherhood."

So in other words, the only reason why a woman waits a couple years before popping out the first kid is that His Satanic Majesty has tempted her to. I get it now!
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

Has the church backed off this at all? Are kids still supposed to marry young and have kids immediately, without "selfishly" postponing childbearing for things like finishing your education?
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

Ummm, the idea that the worst suggestions in life come from those we trust and like and who even love us is not a new thing.

Yes, LDS are encouraged to marry as soon as they find an appropriate partner after the age of 18 for girls or after their Missions for guys. Talking about this being waiting is kinda odd. Only in the last couple centuries would that apply. Compared to most of history we marry late.

Yet another example of how we can never fit with current cultural norms. Where in the past we adhered to the norms of that day the people of today expect that 'with modern Prophets' we should have known more or done things differently. When we're completely different we're looked on as odd for not fitting in.

Who cares, Nehore. Only in the last century would most people have access to indoor plumbing. Should we give that up? And our life span far exceeds the average life expectancy of our ancestors who married far younger, AND females have more opportunities than they did then.

I don't care what age people get married, but to encourage young people to marry and have children before they have adequately prepared a foundation for independent adult life is irresponsible.

It's not whether or not you're odd, it's whether or not your leaders are responsible in what they push your young people to do.

Yeah, I figured all those internet Mormons who'd claimed that the church isn't as pushy as it used to be on this point were blowing smoke.

The whole idea is that two people build an independent adult life together. Though this is anecdotal I see more marital success among two people who marry young with nothing than those who marry at say, my age, and have careers and more fleshed out lives.

They're irresponsible for giving advice? By purely external standards all of our advice is ludicrous. Get pushed underwater and it will help free you of your sins. We'll put our hands on your head and give you a stronger conscience. We'll give you the power to make bread and water take the place of God and then later give you the power to speak the will of God. Then we'll perform ordinances and give you covenant clothing. Pass all that and we'll do a special ordinance that will seal two people together and make them together a God. All this is possible because a God was born 2000 years ago and then suffered the sins of creation and died and then came back to life.

Wow. It's utter and total bats*** insanity. It also works though.

Nehor, the question isn't whether it works or not. The question is whether or not deciding not to have kids for a couple of years into a marriage is an act to which one is put up by Satan. In other words, is one submitting to the will of Satan by deciding to hold off having kids for a couple of years?
