I would tweak this a bit and say that testimony is conviction absent of knowledge.
I believe you are correct. I would say that "testimony" is a word often used (like in criminal cases) in which someone "testifies" of something they have seen (or sensed in the traditional sense)....whereas in the religious context it is used for someone to "testify" of something they have felt (not sensed in the traditional sense--which can be rather subjective). Religious testimony is rather synonymous with "faith" (...the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen) and is therefore does not have knowledge in the sense that we mostly use it. I see that faith and knowledge, by definition are not the same.
