The word retarded is not offensive. Using the word as a slur (when there is a population of people with this disability!) is offensive.

I agree with you asbestosman! I think Nehor meant no disrespect at all. I accept Nehor's apology and know he had no intention of being cruel.

You're probably right, but the problem is that he's just the tail end of this problem. There are posters on this board who, despite being asked to refrain, continue to use the word as a slur, and have done so repeatedly. Sometimes it just reaches a tipping point. This is the first time I've seen Nehor do it, and he may be partly paying for the sins of those who have done so before him.
I think he's also partly paying for not handling the situation very well once it became apparent people found it offensive.
