In other words, you could have an energy dominated universe or a matter dominated universe and it's essentially all the same thing, just a different form.
Origins in Mormonism?
Other than the D&C 131:7, D&C 93:29, Abraham 3 set? Off hand, I don't know but am just as curious.

disternal matter
One of the most notable characteristics of matter is that it changes. Constantly. Not just a little bit, not just sometimes, but always and a lot.
If by matter you mean matter, then I don't see how it can possibly be eternal, for in its changing it will become energy (according to some, but I don't know if I even believe that, one hundred percent).
If matter is created from energy, then there was a time before which it was not matter; therefore it is not eternal.
When matter becomes energy (assuming it does), then it has ceased existence as matter; therefore it is not eternal.
I personally believe that now that there is a universe, there will always be matter in it. The universe is the yoke -- a big yoke, some would say. The partition between matter and spirit is the egg-shell; unwise people can get stuck in the eggs-hell. Outside the shell beyond the yoke is the vast infinity of truly eternal life.
I have no scientific compendium to impress you with. Those are just my personal thoughts, my just "feelings" as it were.
