William Schryver's Book of Abraham documentary...

Post by _Bond...James Bond »

Recently over at the board-that-we-must-not-name Will posted this entry which interested me:

I don't have the energy or inclination to get into it at present. And, frankly, I'm not sure there's much else that could be said at this juncture. Do a search for threads containing the search terms Book of Abraham and KEP, both in this forum and in the Pundits forum. Read the FAIR wiki. Some of the wiki stuff is outdated, but most of it is good and will at least bring you up to speed on the basics.

I hope to finish up a documentary-type of film on the topic during 2008. I hope that the film will become an essential resource for people looking into these questions. People who will appear in it include:

Kevin Barney
Samuel Brown
Christopher Smith
Kerry Shirts (as soon as I get to Idaho Falls again -- hey, Kerry, my daughter is living up there now so it won't be long!)
Mike Ash (I'll stop by on my way to Idaho.)
Blake Ostler
Brian Hauglid
John Gee
David Bokovoy (if he can get off his surfboard long enough to sit down for an interview!)
Others (as yet unnamed) from whom I have not yet obtained consent for an interview.
Several "rank and file" types whose faith has been either destroyed by or retained despite their coming to a knowledge of the "controversy" surrounding the Book of Abraham.

My bottom line for anyone looking into this topic for the first time is that nothing is as clear-cut as the critics would have you believe, and that many things that pass for "givens" among the critics at this point will be shown, in the not-to-distant-future to have been mistaken. There are good, qualified people working on this issue. The next year will no doubt see the publication of at least one (and perhaps two) complete separate sets of images of the Kirtland Egyptian Papers, then the discussion will really take off. When and if Brent Metcalfe ever submits to press his long-promised book (a collection of essays as I understand it) on the topic, it will no doubt spur even more apologetic work in response.

This will be interesting I think (well at least I can see CK live in person). So is this thing anywhere near being completed? Will it be posted on the Net for cheapskates like ole Bond?

I'm surprised CK agreed to it. I don't trust the guy (schryver) as far as this endeavor goes. He's asked a number of critics to be in it, who have all declined. I'm sure if any of you critics wanted to be in it, he'd take volunteers.

You're not the only one.

I believe Dan Vogel has met Will and they had a friendly and respectful encounter, so he can't be ALL bad ;)

I have met Will myself, and he isn't 'ALL bad'. He was actually a very nice guy.

I just wouldn't trust him when it comes to making a documentary about the Book of Abraham, critics, etc. But then again, if I were a scientologist critic, i probably wouldn't trust a scientology apologist either.

I've got nothing against the guy himself.

You don't trust him because some critics have declined to be in it? Seems like upside-down reasoning to me.

Incientally, I might be in it too.

He asked me if he could interview me. He was even willing to fly out to Orlando or Atlanta to do it. But I do not know when exactly I will be back in the USA. I told him I was up for it, assuming I would be back next month.

you know what he is going to do - he is going to have Gee write questions that he will ask them and then when there is pause - or a look upward for an answer then it will be a cut - it's going to be like a 60 minutes edit show. Then they are going show this to TBM and keep them in the fog and say look at the critics - they can't answer real questions.
