If your really wondering if the church is true, and this is creating some serious problems in your life, then go take a hike in the hills and spend an afternoon alone in prayer. And stay off these boards for a week or so.

If your having problems with God, then go talk to God about them.

To pray for such revelation, one must first ask what it means to say, "the church is true". It would be like asking God, "hey God. Is a copping saw true?" If the question is, "God, is this your only real church on earth and the rest are false," well, sorry, but I have my revelation for that question. If the question is, "God, should I be in this church," then (again) I have my revelation on that as well.

Just go ask what he wants you to do. Spend some time on it.

I haven't had true suicidal thoughts, but I have had moments where I just wanted to disappear...just curl up in a ball and cease to exist.

It really does help to talk to somebody...

Could you get a referral from your doctor for a therapist?

Ha....that explains my mindset alot. Don't want to die, just want to disappear (or not exist).

Yes...if you've been having suicidal thoughts for a while try to get some therapetic help. Even a 1 hr session where you just lay it all on the table can be informative, and can be a good place to continue from (especially if you find a good therapist). And some therapists will do pro bono work or cut a deal money wise.

I used to have those "want to disappear" thoughts, but it's a hell of a lot different from going into the closet and trying to hang yourself. The former means you're depressed. The latter means you're in deep trouble.

Totally. Or lining up a few pill bottles and staring at them for a few hours.

Or not being able to move your foot up to touch the brakes when you're on cruise control going on an offramp at a high speed.

:(

The worst part is when you do say something and people shun you. They recoil from your pain. So I'd pretend I was okay, when I wasn't. Despair in silence, alone. Even though there were a few people - others ran from me. That compounded the issue. Hearing from others how I could choose to be happy was as if I'd been dunked into an icy well.

I'm glad you felt comfortable coming to the board to ask your question Nephi.

Nephi wrote:I have putting more distance between myself and the church since we moved into this new ward. However, I can not say that church has caused my depression anymore than I can say that the rise in average global temperature is caused by the dwindling number of pirates on the earth. So I stay where I am, searching as I have always. I will say this, my marriage and my children concern me for I do not want to lose them by walking away from the church. So if it boiled down to this (and it has not yet), it would be a choice between being true to myself or staying status quo to keep my family happy.

I am not saying this is where I am, but I definitely see that road bump ahead. Sucks, that's for sure.

I will not pressure you either way, Nephi. This is the same problem I recognised with some of the posters on PostMo, and that's essentially why I left them alone. I don't think that's where you are at, needing to go to PostMo. But Gaz may be right, that you may need to take a break from here, or any boards, unless you feel the replies are helpful. Most important here, is you, and your family, and deciding how to negotiate this problem, or dilemma.
