Lucky you. Mine went off and got married and now I'm just the third glove. :-(

I realize that's what they're supposed to do, and that I wouldn't have it any other way . . . but we were best friends for a long time before she decided (correctly, of course) that Dad just wasn't enough anymore.

But, life goes on . . .

I still have 14-year-old and a 9-year-old. Daughters are the best. Males are stupid. Except when they're being Dads, of course.

You're way off, Will. I love my daughters, and they are the best. But so are my boys. Sitting with my 8 year old last night at the BYU basketball game and just watching him was pure bliss.

I hope it stays that way. And I'm hoping that my son (now 20) wakes up one day, too. He was a remarkable little 8-year-old. It wasn't until he turned 16 that he really started getting stupid.

But, I was also pretty stupid until I was well into my twenties and early thirties. In fact, I'm not sure how smart I've become over the years. Most of the time, I still feel pretty stupid. So, maybe what that tells me is that I shouldn't be too impatient with a 20-year-old that is currently wandering aimlessly on the landscape of life.

On the other hand, I'm pretty sure I was primarily intended to be a father of daughters. I understand them. We see eye to eye - most of the time anyway. We know how to talk with one another; we connect. That's one of the reasons I get a little worked up when I hear people claim that Mormons oppress women; that they are misogynistic, etc., etc. Nothing could be more foreign to my family life; more antithetical to the way I view my wife and my daughters.

My oldest started being stupid at about 12. But we survived his adolescence without killing him. He turned out to be a good kid, and despite the dumb behavior, we enjoyed having him in our home most of the time.

I have 3 daughters, and they are so completely different from each other. But we do connect. But my boys and I do too.

Better start talking me down then.....make up some stuff about how I don't rewind videos (cause I got a DVD player and thus don't get VHS anymore) and how I mistreat my cat by not feeding it (cause I don't have a cat and thus don't have to feed it).
