Enlightenment as it applies to Church Dress Standards
I would like to put forth an idea that may be enlightening: Worshipfulness, reverence and holiness have nothing whatsoever to do with your manner of dress. Whether you are tuxedo-clad or sky-clad, it is all the same. Any clothing desires or hangups you may have comes strictly from you and does not represent any wish of God.

And I would like to put forth the idea that we show respect when we clean up, shower, wear clean clothes that are the best we have (whatever that is), use respectful language, and other respectful behaviors.
And we are commanded to be respectful to God. So I think it comes from Him.

I agree but courteousness suggests that unless you're worshipping alone you probably should wear enough so that you're not distracting and not have a pungent odor that extends more than a three foot radius around you.

I think the Quakers have a nice thought when it comes to dress during Sunday meetings...
If I recall correctly, (Cacheman spoke to this at one time), the idea is to not wear your finest clothing but to dress simply.
I sense this idea is helpful in reducing pride, and eliminates worry about what to wear, how to impress others, or attracting attention through one's clothing style. It removes the feeling of power that are often associated with fancy suits or elaborate jewelry.
I do not think there are dress requirement in the Quaker tradition, but it is more about what promotes humility and goodness.
:-)
I do think there is value in living in the world with respect, consideration, and courtesy for others.

I think it is important to dress tastefully when going to Church and to show respect. I think, however, that Catholics have the right idea. They do not require women to wear dresses to Church. I think that women should be able to wear a nice dress pant as well.
I can understand jeans not being appropriate, but let's at least move into the 21st century with business attire that could be appropriate wear.

I cannot express how much I despised being required to wear dresses to church. I never wear dresses or skirts in "real life" (nope, not even when I got married), and dreaded Sundays when I would have to put them on. I think once I wore nice slacks since I had to do something else right before church for which that was the necessary attire, and you would have thought I was sitting there in the chapel wearing a bikini for all the looks I received.
I never understood why the lord required me to be in a dress.

Where's the logic?
;)
You're applying logic to people's perception of you? You must face a lot of disappointment in life.
The easily offended dwell in every social grouping and they're watching and waiting.....for that one screw-up so they can pounce. You should have seen the looks I got when I wore my chainmail tie. Heheheheh, good fun.

No logic. Just an undeniable statement of a woman's place.
