Yeah the split skirt thing was at the temple several years ago... I think you are right things are changing... slowly but changing nontheless.

I wore a very nice pant suit to church today and no one blinked an eye. Well, maybe they did but at least no one said anything! (smile)

I had a meeting with the 2nd ward's bishop this morning (I'm in 1st ward); he didn't blink an eye. I doubt anyone even noticed. No one mentioned it anyway. I think that's one of those cultural things that is changing ever so slowly.

Just like attitudes toward homosexuality and a “sin” link.

Evolution of cultural practices are continuous.

Shortly after my baptism I went to a Sunday night fireside being held at someone's home for young adults - wearing nice pants. OMG. You would have thought I walked in wearing a bikini. I was taken aside and privately informed my attire was inappropriate.

(edit on - it's funny, I wrote this response before reading what everyone else posted, and just saw that skippy used the exact same description I did! LOL!! I swear, skippy, I didn't copy!!!)

That's pretty funny. Goes to show the common type of reaction, though, don't it?

I have to agree that cultural dress standards are something that change with time. We dress nothing like the saints did a hundred years ago. One sister last Sunday wore a jean dress with frayed ends – it didn’t look all that neat to me, but that’s her choice.

I gave up on white shirts and ties years ago. Wearing colored shirts suits me just fine along with a nice pair of pants. I’m not going to wrap that cloth around my neck and tighten it up just because other men choose to. When I go to the temple I don’t wear a tie, but put a white one on in the dressing room after changing my shirt. Wearing a tie during temple rites is required.

The prophet has made it clear that he doesn’t care what we wear so long as it’s clean and neat.

He should obviously talk to the new Relief Society president. She cares.
