Jason Bourne,
You are correct. I have no idea how much the LDS org rakes in.
My numbers, possibly hyperbole as we don't know what the LDS org grosses, are there to stress a point.
Let's say I make $5.500.000 a year and I give $500 to "feed the poor" a year total charitable contribution. That's nice but it is a drop in the bucket to me. On the other hand, if I make $45.000 a year and I give $100 to "feed the poor", I've given far more personally than the other guy.
The issue is: If a non-profit org pulls in "$X"/year and the total they give out to help the poor/etc. is only 1/1000 of "$X"/year, what is done with the other 99.9%? Not only the LDS org, but I'd like to see all other religious orgs open their books and see the "salaries", er, daily expense allotment of their leadership. Start with Oral Roberts if you want, he's supposedly has a small salary but he spends the $$$$$.

The LDS Church may or may not be able to do more. But did you miss the other points I made about it being church with operations?

For profit farming operations, for profit financial investment operations, etc. But what REALLY sickened me is when I reviewed the books for the England area in a report released by the english govt. Their report stated in clear legally binding terms that charitable donations were around TWO PERCENT of the gross intake. Sad. Plain sad.

I agree, the people should be giving more than 2% of everything collected in Fast Offerings.

There should be an addendum to the celestial forum rules limiting the use of useless comments as well.

I agree, I'm also for the compulsory eating of asparagus for breakfast, free corsets for those under five, and the abolition of slavery.

With Hollandaise sauce over a nice English muffin, lightly toasted, topped with some Canadian bacon and an egg.

For profit farming operations, for profit financial investment operations, etc.
Farming operations are an integral part of the LDS Church's welfare program and helps top provice food for LDS bishop storehouses which is in turn used to feed a lot of people who cannot buy their own food.

I am not sure you can extrapolate that to the entire Church. However, we are at at dilemma because there are no totals to see or review.

If that were the case then the food that the LDS org donates is part of the 2% that is taken in.Jason Bourne wrote:Farming operations are an integral part of the LDS Church's welfare program and helps top provice food for LDS bishop storehouses which is in turn used to feed a lot of people who cannot buy their own food. For profit farming operations, for profit financial investment operations, etc.
True. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see the financials for the SBC, the RCC and ALL other religious groups.Jason Bourne wrote:I am not sure you can extrapolate that to the entire Church. And this is the dilemma Jason. If it were so cut and dry the financials would be reported.
Mormonism as an organization cannot be trusted until financial transparency is established.
