Yes it is indeed the Brymer Jones library that I would like to visit. As a proxy effort, maybe you could sometime you're in there, just close your eyes and say "thanks, Philip Larkin, thanks from Blixa," like a kind of prayer. I can't imagine any possible deity being offended by that...

I didn't know, but I'm not suprised, that there is a building named after him at Hull. I'm sure I can find pictures and information about it online..thanks!

Okay Dokey. I will let you know how it goes, next time I am in the library. Is there any particular section?

There are a handful of his poems I like a great deal.

I must say I AM HONORED to have helped you acheive deity hood.

Soon there will be a thread dedicated to congratulating you on this spiritual milestone...and a party in the goddess suite. See liz for details.

Back to your question:

I like different ones for different reasons. The ones I like best I appreciate both intellectually and emotionally. I ran across one today, I'd read it before, that seemed to speak with great precision about some recent experiences I've had. I don't however think that "relating" to something I read is a prerequiste for finding it astonishing and beautiful, this just happend to "ring" with coincidence. Here it is. Its very simple:

Home Is So Sad

Home is so sad. It stays as it was left,
Shaped in the comfort of the last to go
As if to win them back. Instead, bereft
Of anyone to please, it withers so,
Having no heart to put aside the theft

And turn again to what it started as,
A joyous shot at how things ought to be,
Long fallen wide. You can see how it was:
Look at the pictures and the cutlery.
The music in the piano stool. That vase.

Awe, that poem is so nice. I hope you don't feel like that. It is quite sad. I feel it speaks of children growing up and leaving home behind.
