Anyone interested in an online (email) game of diplomacy?

Post by _Canucklehead »

I don't post too often on the board, but I read it quite regularly.

A lot of the people on here seem like the kind who would play strategy or war games (me included). If people are interested, I'd be willing to moderate a 13-player game of diplomacy. I wouldn't be playing myself, since it's unfair to both moderate and play at the same time.

For people who are unfamiliar with it, the game is like a combination of risk and survivor. Everyone is assigned one country (or "power") and a certain number of supply centres and units to start (armies and fleets). There are two movement seasons to a year, and in each season all of the units are able to move at the same time. The goal of the game is to capture more and more supply centres which allow you to build more units. The person who captures a certain number of supply centres first (generally half of the total number available +1) is the winner.

I can post some links to tutorials and strategy articles later if people are interested.

It's a very simple game that involves long-term strategising, tactics and, above all, negotiation skills.

If people are interested, just send me a PM and I'll tell you how to register for the game. Once we have 13 players, the game will start.

Cheers.

I thought that I should really mention that diplomacy takes place over a few weeks, not just one evening. There's time to email the other players and negotiate in between each movement round.

Here's an introduction to email diplomacy:

I'd probably be up for it. I've never played, but what the hell right?

I'll send a PM. I usually play more in-depth strategy games like Wif and TI3 and haven't played Diplomacy in ages but I think it would be fun.

The Nehor: What is "TI3?"

I changed the map to the traditional one with 7 countries in Europe rather than the massive worldwide one with 13 countries.

I don't think we'll get 13 players from the board, so 7 seems more realistic.

Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition. Great fun with moving large fleets around then watching them blow each other up. Fantastic good time.

Hmm. I got the 2nd Edition for Christmas one year, but I've never played the 3rd Edition.
