Hey, us engineers are usually partial scientists and partial mathematicians as well. We set up experiments and prototypes to improve processes, machines, etc. The only problem is that I don't know any climate engineers so your point stands. I wouldn't be any more qualified to speak on global warming than a plumber. The only difference is that am more likely to have a college educaton with a BS degree. Doesn't mean I studied climate.
I wouldn't survey anyone but those in the exact right scientific field and with the highest credentials.
In such a survey I would certainly not ask the opinions of physiologists, mycologists, electrical engineers, neurologists, chemists or mathematicians (I am one). I would also not include small time people at small colleges, high schools etc. that make no contributions to the field.
The reason is this, how weird would if be is for some reason the Poincare conjecture contradicted the Bible or was somehow offensive to conservatives. Should I be swayed if a survey of engineers show that only one in three believed it had been proven? (it has).
It is just amazing how many people think they are qualified to oppose the majority opinion in a field other than their own.
Maybe the human contribution to global warming is, against current evidence, not a big problem after all. But neither I nor Coggins is in a position to make that judgement. In his case, its just his conservatism and anti-scientific anti-progressive paranoia (don't ya know scientists are godless liberals who oppose all that is holy?/end sarcasm)
Coggins just thinks it is a socialist/liberal agenda! WTF? He may as well be worried that floridation is a communist plot (like the Gen. Ripper character).
