LOL, I flooded my kitchen today...
That's I get for trying to be Suzie-Sex-Goddess-Homemaker.
Steve and I go to put down the deposit for the apartment today. I'm shocked as hell, as my parents REALLY like him. I can't believe they let a BOY sleep in our house! He slept in the basement, as was the original agreement, but the offer was extended to let him sleep upstairs with me (no noise, LOL). Well, parents are in Dover right now, so we have the house to ourselves. Given the fact that it'll be mine one day anyway, I guess I should get used to the fact that he's lying like Adam on my den couch right now. Forgive me Liz, I'll be absent from the GS for the weekend. *wink*
Anyways...I got up this morning, went to clean my room so he actually could inhabit it with me tonight (I get up 30 minutes before the bus comes each day, so my room is always a mess until the weekend), and started cleaning the kitchen. The kitchen faucet is like a mild drip, in my opinion. It takes like, five minutes to fill a gallon jug. So I didn't think that it would be a problem to turn on the faucet and fill the huge, deep sink. I was gonna run upstairs for FIVE MINUTES.
Well, I come downstairs and hear the water running after what was obviously more than five minutes. I got carried away, because it's just so nice to be able to do something as simple as clean part of my house. I can physically clean my own house, instead of being bedridden all weekend. What a blessing to me. I must have gotten so into it I lost track of time.
The sink was overflowed with really hot water, and the water was all over the kitchen floor. It dripped through the vents into the basement. This isn't the first time I flooded the house, my shower flooded the kitchen once, and the water dripped through the flourescent lighting.
The rain has stopped in my den now. Thank goodness.

Sam,
Ah! I know just what you're talking about! Last winter during an all out blizard, my husband started the bath running and then went out to plow. He lost track of time and you guessed it, we had water running through the vents and into the basement. Yikes! Now he sets a timer when he starts water running and goes to do something else.
Get a timer or use the timer on your stove!

Huh. I've never heard of starting a bath and then leaving. The only way I've ever bathed is to sit in the tub while the warm water is filling it up.

Interesting. I never do that. I stay in the room while the water is running and do chick stuff.

I'm so lucky. The last thing I needed was for my parents to come home to a flood-damaged house. It's all back to normal now.
Shades, it's totally in to do chick stuff while waiting for the water to fill the tub. You should try it. ;-)

No. But of course mom just found out, she's not too happy...but I don't think it's too serious. If it is, I'll pay for the repairs. It's happened before, and when it flooded the kitchen light they didn't do anything.

I'm wondering why Jersey Girl's hubby would be out plowing in the middle of a blizzard? Jesus Christ don't people know that when the white slop falls stay in and deck the halls.

In the higher elevations, you plow during storms (even blizzards) because given the amount of snowfall, you won't be able to leave your home for several days after if you don't.

I keep getting logged out of this forum repeatedly. Wanting to add..

(figured out a way "in")
When "the white slop falls" we don't have time to "stay in and deck the halls". If we don't shovel and plow regularly we can't get out our front door much less down our long driveway. Hope that clears up your wondering.
Rural trivia: When the power goes out, we also have no running water.
