Birthday Haters Club

Post by _KimberlyAnn »

I don't like my birthday. Not the day itself. I love the whole month of April! I just hate my birthday--it wouldn't matter what day it was.

I don't know why. I love my kids' birthdays and the birthdays of friends and relatives. I love throwing birthday parties, too. But, I feel utterly depressed on my own birthday and have for years. My depression on my birthday has rubbed off on my family, and basically, we don't celebrate it at all, which is fine by me.

My sisters start announcing their birthdays weeks in advance and we always have a party of some sort. I love that about them! Yet, I cannot be happy about my birthday. I thought I was a weirdo, until I googled "I hate my birthday" and got so many results. There are lots of other people who hate their birthdays, too!

Some people hate their birthdays because everyone forgets them. Usually, my family forgets my birthday, but I WANT it that way, and basically assisted them in forgetting it by never bringing it up, so that's not why I hate mine. Some folks hate their birthdays because they're getting old. I think that's more my issue, but not completely. I hated my birthday before I ever considered myself old. I can't quite put my finger on why I hate it so much, but most of my birthdays have been really awful, so perhaps they're cursed!

Actually, I start hating my birthday early. Days ahead, I start getting sad. Why is that? I dunno.

Anyway, does anyone else here hate their birthday, too?

Don't wish me Happy Birthday, either. I get depressed well before my birthday, so don't assume it's today!

Besides, I feel like this little boy: "You mean! You are mean!"

Awww... That poor kid! His parents WERE mean! :(

Well, Kim, I won't wish you a Happy Birthday, but I will say that you look great and hope you have a good month and rest of the year. ;)

P.S......Does that mean I have to cancel the male strippers for the Goddess Suite bash and Bond is off the hook for wearing his thong?

I've actually been mainly apathetic to my birthdays. Nothing good ever happens on my birthday. There was the birthday in the ER with a broken thumb. The speeding ticket (actually, I hadn't even realized it was my birthday - the cop pointed it out and then still wrote me a damn ticket). I like having some chocolate cake, but don't like being sung to. I make a point of NOT telling anybody when my birthday is coming up. I typically let the day pass quietly. Unlike an uncle of mine, who would proclaim the entire month of May as his "birthday month." It's just not my thing.

Like you, I love to celebrate other people's birthdays. Just not my own.

So I will not wish you a happy birthday. Instead, I'll just say "Hope you enjoy this random day, not for any particular reason" :o)

My wife doesn't really care for being the center of attention, it makes her a bit self conscious. That's why she isn't a big fan of her own birthday. Maybe that lends into it?
One moment in annihilation's waste,
one moment, of the well of life to taste-
The stars are setting and the caravan
starts for the dawn of nothing; Oh, make haste!

How can a blow up doll be self conscious?
And crawling on the planet's face
Some insects called the human race
Lost in time
And lost in space...and meaning

My wife is an actual human being. A beautiful, smart, forgiving, patient and funny one, at that. These are some of the many qualities with which she manages to stand marriage to yours truly.

Well, it was a "nothing good ever happens on my birthday" birthday for me, too. But, thank God, it's almost over!

The funny thing is, I made dinner, like usual, and cleaned the mess, but my husband volunteered to put the two little kids in bed tonight because it's my birthday. It's my present, I guess. It's 10:00--and hour and a half past their bedtime--and they're still running around! Ha! I think I'll have him wake their groggy butts up for school in the morning, too, and get them ready...
