Vista is the most stupidist, stupidist system ever.

Post by _JonasS »

Everytime I write a long blog or long writing online the browser stops responding. I lose everything I wrote, and don't have the best memory in the world.

Does anyone else have such problems with Vista?

I have not had those problems with Vista. The problems I have with Vista generaly have to do with either too many prompts for some games, or hardware that won't run on the 64 bit version which is what I'm running.

Which browser are you using--Internet Explorer, Firefox, or something else?

I often use Vista 64 bit with 2GB of RAM. I usually use Internet Explorer, but I also use Firefox too. Only rarely do I encounter problems with Vista.

Windoze peecees are for people who like to tinker with their computer and OS... patching, reinstalling, rebooting, troubleshooting transient issues, playing games, etc.

People who use computers to get work done do so on a Mac.

You do get what you pay for when it comes to computers. Macintosh computers with OS X simply work.

I have often used my mother-in-law's Mac. While I never saw a patch, I did have it freeze a couple of times.

Also, with a bit of schadenfreude, I recall the Month of Apple Bugs last year. People who do not patch their systems live in denail whether that's MAC, *nix, or anything else. People have even been able to hack iPhones and iPods. Patching is reality.

Apple does have one major advantage though--it is rarely targeted by virus and malware writers--at least for now. It's a sort of safety in numbers game, but in reverse. Criminals love Windows because there are so many targets. If you don't run Windows, you're less likely to be a target.

Write your post in a program like Word and copy it to the net when you're done.

Richard, your age is showing :)

Windows is the operating system which executes programs to facilitate user input. At least when it's not spreading viruses and such :)

Before I hit the Submit button on a long post, I copy the text to the clipboard... hit CMD-a (cntl-a on windows), then CMD-c (cntl-c on windows).

If the post fails, just log back in, go back to the post you were replying to, once in the post window paste the stored text by hitting cmd-v or cntl-v on a pc.. done!

That sounds confusing, B&L.

If I know it's going to be a long response, I just type it in Microsoft Notepad. Then I copy-&-paste it into the "Reply" field.

That way, if there's a problem and I need to log out or whatever, I still have the post on Notepad.

I meant to write Word not Windows (corrected in the original).

Best to stay with XP. Microsoft relies on several years of service package updates to get the operating system working properly.
