Am I a wimp?

Post by _msnobody »

I just told my devout LDS friend about my DD's new job at a clothing store, but skated around what store it is. I suppose if it had been Joseph's Secret I would have come right out with it, but since it is Victoria's Secret, I caved.

So, am I a wimp?

Yes, why fear what your friend will think.

No, it didn't necessarily need to be disclosed.

I'm voting Yes, I am a wimp.

I voted yes, you're a wimp. :-) I'm not sure why. I guess, I put myself in your place and thought, I'd say where my DD worked. I dunno...that's just me and my "what's it to ya?" attitude.

p.s. When LDS start squirming over porn in Marriott, I'll worry about your daughter selling V.S.

It's just underwear! If she was working at an adult book store, then maybe you make something up. But Victoria's Secret? Not a big deal. It's not like she's working at <gasp> Starbucks.

So I voted "yes."

But really, there's no rule that says you gotta tell people everything about your family (although I wish there were one for my mom), so I'd say it's fine to say whatever you want to, and not say whatever you don't.

Okay, so count my "yes" as really a half yes.

At least she has a job. I'd be more embarrassed to say my kid is unemployed. Work is work. Money is money.

I'd like to see my wife in VS instead of that [ ... self censored words ... ].

I voted "yes" because my attitude would be more like Jersey Girl's. ;)

Frankly, VS is no big deal. Now if she was working at Priscilla's, there would be something to talk about. LOL

Of course, I would probably go ahead and just name where it was in that case, too, because most TBM's don't even know what kind of store it is.

;)

I still think you're cool, though. I love your posts!

I voted no because I think we all can feel nervous at times and how you feel about her working there would have an effect on what you tell people. Clearly there is part of you that is perhaps dissapointed or even imbarrased about it. But I think you are a guy and all guys would be imbarrased about going in a womens underwear store. I am assuming that is what it is, we don't have that here, we have um... what's it called?... Anne Summers. I also think that one does not need to give away too much detail if they so wish. But I am betting that is she worked somewhere like high up, then you would be so proud you would tell everyone where she worked. It says a lot about whatyou think of her achievements, but I don't think it makes you a wimp. I suppose there are different types of wimp though.

Yes, you're a wimp.

Your devout LDS friend is probably one of their best customers.

No. You obviously think this person is likely to prejudge your daughter negatively. No point in being honest about something rather trivial, to someone who is not very important to you about something they will with good probability misinterpret inappropriately.

If they were a good friend who was open minded to discussions which challenged her beliefs and was interested in further discussion on this should it warrant it, that would be a different story.
