NBA Playoffs/Finals

Post by _silentkid »

This is the place to post your feelings, thoughts, observations, rants, etc. about the NBA playoffs. If you don't like sports, or the NBA in particular, post that here as well. I don't care.

I just wanted to rant a little about Cleveland/Boston game 7. I think that ABC broadcast the entire game in slow motion. Boring, boring, boring. I kept watching because the announcers told me that this was one of the most exciting game 7's they've ever seen. LeBron had over 40 points, Pierce had over 40. Neither team had over 100. I think this was the first game of the series that Boston scored over 90 (or maybe even 80...I'll have to check that).

LeBron James may be a talented basketball player, but his game is boring. It's slow. It's plodding. He scores the majority of his points from the free-throw line. He drives to the hoop and either gets fouled or he dunks. We see the dunk highlights on Sports Center. If you actually watch the game, you see all the foul shots. He's about as exciting to watch as Tim Duncan.

Go New Orleans!

Man, how long does the basketball postseason last??

Sorry - it's baseball season. No other sports exist right now (except for the occasional NASCAR/Indy race, but that's not really a sport).

It lasts forever...into June. Hockey is still going as well. NASCAR and golf don't count as sports. Same goes for horse racing. And bowling and poker.

I haven't been keeping tabs on The Giants. How're they doing? The Rockies suck this year. I went to a game a couple of weeks ago. The Rocks beat The Dodgers. That was good. I usually don't start following baseball until after the NBA finals.

Is Kevin Garnett's intensity real or feigned? I'm going with feigned...that underbite looks forced.

I finally checked the standings in the paper at lunch and it appears that The Giants and The Rockies are fighting for mediocrity. The A's, however, are playing pretty well. I'm sick of the SoCal teams beating up on the NorCal teams. First they steal our water, then they beat our teams. What's next?

I was just thinking that the NBA needs to institute a penalty system similar to the NHL. If a player commits a foul, he has to spend time in the penalty box. Then it's 4 on 5. Forget free throws. Free throws are boring. Nobody wants to watch free throw shooting. 4 on 5 basketball would be way cooler. "Bring the power play to the NBA." That's my motto. See ya, Bruce Bowen.

I'd love to talk basketball with ya, silentkid. Trouble is, my interest in the NBA petered out in the early to mid 70's. If you wanna gab about Artis Gilmore or Austin Carr, I'm there. Hell, I'll even talk Dr. J (I tried modeling my fall away jump shot on his in High School....)

My interest in the NBA is waning. I think the game has gotten too rough. Too many players either committing fouls or trying to draw them. The finesse is gone. Jordan and Dominique took it with them when they left. Kobe has a little bit of it, but he's a whiny baby. The referees have too much control.

Could not have said it better myself. Though I'd push your assessment back about a decade and a half... Plus I always favored college ball over the pros. Even that sucks now.

Believe me, if the fight were for mediocrity, I'd be thrilled. I'd be satisfied if the Giants were simply craptastic this year, but I think that's aiming too high. The bullpen - one slightly bright spot in the dismal season - has imploded, giving up 6 run leads late in the game. The youngsters that promised excitement either show incompetence or have been benched so we can watch old guys that are way way way on the downside of their careers. And don't even get me started about Barry Zito or the power outage at the corner positions.

All of this has led me to blarg about the pain - that's how bad it is.

Oh - and the A's aren't really a baseball team. Nobody is actually an A's fan.
