But I luv Shaun of the Dead. [Hot Fuzz was hilarious as well. I can't wait to see the next movies put out by those guys]

I'm not saying it's a horror flick, just that it's a zombie flick. The poll is for zombie movies, whether they be horror or comedy or whatever. You could put Fido on the poll if you want to.

It's good to have another horror movie buff around here.

I really liked Shaun of the Dead as well, but I have to give it to Planet Terror (which should have been placed second in the Grindhouse double feature if you ask me - Death Proof was so slow and seemed even moreso following a film as fast and awesome as PT. If you disagree, you're wrong. Sorry.).

Well, in that case you should have seriously considered putting Peter Jackson's "Dead Alive" in that list. Makes Shaun of the Dead look downright boring and unfunny.

As long as you're not a fan of Eli Roth style torture porn "horror", we'll probably have a whole lotta fun discussing movies.

Planet Terror was cool. And you're right, Death Proof sucked. I'd have much rather seen them make a full length version of "Machete". Seriously, movies like Death proof are why I seriously can't stand most of Quentin Tarantino's movies. If I wanted to watch a dialogue driven movie I'd pop in something by Kevin Smith (at least his dialogue is witty, funny, and it MOVES THE PLOT ALONG). If I wanted to watch an hour and a half of Kurt Russel glaring at people I'd watch Soldier (at least then I'd be entertained by the severe buttwhoopery). Tarantino peaked with Jackie Brown and went downhill from there (yes, that includes Bore Me To Death About Some Guy Named Bill, er.. Kill Bill). All Tarantino does anymore is homages to his favorite martial arts and spaghetti westerns with piss poor, hamfisted, cheesy dialogue and tosses a couple of hundred gallons of fake blood towards it.

What makes it all the worse is that the premise sounded so freakin promising! I mean, who could possibly eff up a movie about a stunt man who kills chicks with his death-proof stunt car?

Oh, hi Quentin.

I keep hearing this is supposed to happen eventually - maybe as a straight to DVD type thing, but I'd really like to see it get a theatrical release (assuming it ever happens). (Rodriguez needs to come on with the Sin City sequel(s) first, though.)

I know this is a blasphemous statement, but I didn't like Dead Alive. It just didn't do it for me. I love the VHS box cover, but that's as far as I get with that one. Did you see Dead and Breakfast? I could've put that on the list, but didn't think of it in the minute I was compiling it. Go Jeremy Sisto!

Also, I'm not a fan of Hostel but I loved Cabin Fever (so did Peter Jackson, so he's got my back). I think the "torture porn" label is a joke. See Vern's take on that issue.

The movie that I did forget to put on the poll that most deservedly belongs there is Re-Animator. I'm retarded for having forgot that one.

I'm totally with you here. Planet Terror is amazing. Death Proof bored me. Too much talky-talk. I also am looking forward to the full-length DTV release of Machete. Genius.

Dude, how can you not like a movie with a martial artist priest that appears in the movie with a line like "I kick arse for the Lord!"? I mean, they freaking kill zombies with a rotary lawnmower. Lawnmower > Cricket Bat any day.

Yeah, that movie was pretty good. Thanks for reminding me I gotta nab a DVD of that.

Cabin Fever was a good movie. Little slow at first but if got to rocking about mid-way in. But then again, it's not torture porn crap like the Hostel. Seriously, I like watching campers getting offered by a masked psycho as much as the next guy, but could I get a plot with more than "these people torture people for kicks"? I mean even those worthless wastes of celuliod Rob Zombie did (House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects) at least gave some sort of motivation for the characters being a bunch of savages. All Hostel I and II had was "Gee, I'm a bored old rich guy... I wonder what it'd be like to torture some rando to death...". Christ, even the Saw franchise gave a reason for why Jigsaw was so ate up in the head. Hostel was just torutre and gore for the sake of torture and gore.

Great movie... The sequal was not-so-great, but the first movie is a cult classic.

I guess I need to see a few movies. As to the some of ones I've seen:

Dawn of the Dead 1978---This movie was very good. It had a bit more of a message about materialism than Dawn 2004 but it was still good fun.

Dawn of the Dead 2004--this movie was better imho. I love the running zombies. Take the shambling hoards and give them steroids! Sounds like a plan stan. Also this movie has great rewatchability [something I probably should blog about]. It's not Anchorman or Shawshank Redemption for this catagory, but I think it's better than Shun of the Dead, which puts it quite high. The "Coming Down with the Sickness" is just great imho.

New evidence has come about that the cricket bat ranks higher than the lawn mower across chest in the improvised weapons category.
