Just venting...

Post by _Scottie »

Ok, I just have to vent here for a minute....

Remember ex wife that was trying to milk me out of my big raise a couple of months ago?

Well, she just bought a brand new 2008 Mazda 6 last night!!!

Now I'm waiting for the 1st payment to come due so that she can cry poverty to me and how our kids will have to go hungry because she doesn't have enough money to buy food and she NEEEEEEDS me to give her more child support. But you can bet your ass the church is getting their 10%!!

I sure wish I could afford to buy a new car.

Look on the bright side: Now you have rock-solid proof that she doesn't need any more of your money (and can point out that proof to her if necessary).

Is child support determined by a particular formula in Utah (it is in California)? If so, then the courts can easily determine the appropriate amount of child support due, and you go with that. It's not that hard, and should be a rather dispassionate procedure. Whether she buys a new car is not the issue - you pay what the court says you pay, right?

I think the issue is that his ex is going to request money in excess of child support with the story that they're out of food.

Ah, the memories. Seven years of financial hell usually does the trick (for you, that is).

Well, it's not the child support, but the alimony that she will try and go after.

Child support it set by a formula that the state provides. It's pretty set. But alimony is not.

Where did she get the money for the car? Have you asked her?

I'm not sure of US laws, but in my case alimony worked 80-20 (in her favour). In other words I surrendered virtually everything because of one important fact: She had the two (under-18) children. That fact granted her the rights to such a large amount of the overall share. Initially they asked for a 90-10 split, and the (female) magistrate agreed! My solicitor talked them down to the "more reasonable" 80-20.

Their (new husband) combined income: $100,000 per annum (his not counted in assessments).

My slave labour (six days a week) income: c.$60,000 per annum (while insolvent).

Accountability for where child support payments are spent: None.

If you're male - you're screwed.

I like Mazda 6's. I do have one question... is it a chick car or is it neutral?
