Possible new AV&Sig, which one you think looks better?

Post by _Angus McAwesome »

Ok, here's my current AV and sig:

And since I've been working on an army of Ordo Malleus Daemonhunters centered aorund some Grey Knights I was thinking of switching to this:

Image or Image for the AV

Image the signature to go with.

So should I stick with Marneus Calgar, Chapter Master of the Adeptus Astartes Ultramarines Chapter
Image

Or go with the Armored Fist of the Ordo Malleus, the Grey Knights?

In the grim darkness of the future there is only war...

TL;DR AHOY!

Actually no. The above are two chapters of Space Marines, on the factions you can play as in Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 game. Basically it's a table-top war gaming system using various miniatures that you paint up, and you play against other people. Depending on how into the game you are, it can get pretty damned expensive between the various books, miniatures, and painting supplies (GW rules state you have to have your army painted with at least three different colors in order to play in official tournaments. The group I game with has around $30k invested in miniatures, supplies, books, terrain models for setting up battle fields, etc.

The Space Marine Dreadnoughts say "Even in death I still serve". The WH40K gamer says "Even in debt I still spend". Game can be insanely fun, but it's very complicated and requires having a couple of experienced played around to walk you through the actual game mechanics a few times before you'll be able to play.

The Imperium of Man, loyal servants of the God Emperor of man, long may His holy light shine on use from the Golden Throne upon Holy Terra.

The big blue guy in the picture is a member of the Adeptus Astartes (a.k.a. Space marines), who serve the Imperium of Man and the God Emperor of Man. The Space Marines are divided into multiple chapters, each with it's own specialization. Basically your average SM is a 2m+ tall genetically and cybernetically enhanced religious zealot in massive power armor that's trained to find and kill the enemies of the man and the God Emperor.

The Grey Knights (the big grey severely pissed off guy above) are Space Marines trained specifically for hunting and killing daemons. They work for the Ordo Malleus, a.k.a. Daemon Hunters. Other Orders with in the IoM include the hand picked Space Marines of the Ordo Xenos (they kill aliens and mutants, the IoM is rabidly xenophobic) and the Ordo Hereticus (They kill heretics and witchs, basically anyone that doesn't love Jesus, er... The God Emperor).

Ordo Hereticus. The white hair lady in the power army is a member of the Adapta Sororitas (a.k.a. Bolter Bitches). Think female version of the Space Marines, add in even more fanatical devotion of the God Emperor, and Permanent PMS. Then someone thought it'd be a good idea to issue them power armor and heavy weapons.
Image

The IoM also has the Imperial Guard, the massive war machine of the Imperium.
Image
Light infantry (cannon fodder) supported by the heaviest armor and artillery in the game (what makes the IG worth playing).

The Enemies of Man, xenos, heretics, and traitors all. May they all burn under the Emperor's wrath!

Chaos Space Marines, the heretical servants of the Four Chaos Gods.
Image
Basically Space Marince possessed by daemons. Some of these guys can be down right nasty to fight against.

The Eldar.
Image
An ancient race of... Ok, they're basically Space Elves. Some people like playing them for reasons I'll never be able to understand... I can crush a 2000pnt Eldar force with just a 1000pnt force of SMs. But hey! Some bunch of fanboys cried until GW gave in and put Elves in the game.

The Tau.
Image
Think "Commies in SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!" These guys are weak in close quarters, but they more then make up for it by being evil good at ranged combat.

The Zrg... Er, Tyranids.
Image
Dumbest thing they ever put in the game as far as I'm concerned, but someone had to have their damned Xenomorphs. Doesn't matter, the Ultramarines have an entire Company devoted solely to slaughtering these damned bugs. Though right now, in game, the 'Nids have invaded the Ultramarine Homeworld of Macragge (Great campaign, by the way).

Certainly, I am of minority. It was my intention to say in the previous post.

A little coincidence: summertimes we have companies, the grandchildrens in groups of 2-3. We get home the last three yesterday. That week I have learned, our PC with a 64M Nvidia videocard is not good enough to play StarWars games ...

So. . . what about the Necrons?

Ah yes... Thanks for reminding me, I tend to forget about the Necrons because it's pretty rare to actually play against someone using them. by the way, you play WH40K?

The Necrons.

A seriously looooooooooooooooooooooooong time ago A bunch of terminally emo people started worshiping godlike cosmic vampires called the C'tan. The Emo people, despite enjoying cutting themselves and writing bad poetry on their LiveJournals, made a deal with the C'tan to become immortals. So they finally worked up the nerve to kill themselves, put their souls in Living metal (never seen that before, amirite). Only the C'Tan got the last laugh when they took over the minds over all the newly Cyborgized Emos, and then they promptly went out into the Galaxy to exterminate every living thing they could find, only stopping when they ran out of things to kill. So the C'Tan and the Emos, er, Necrons all went nappy time for at least a 9,000,000 years, waiting for the Galaxy to repopulate so they could go kill everything all over again.

Sounds pretty Epic, right? That is until you understand that any SM or IG player worth the points their army cost can crush asses on Necrons. As you can probably tell, I'm really biased towards IoM forces (though I also play Tau when the mood strikes me), especially Ultramarines and Imperial Guard.

Though I'm currently working on painting up a 2,500pt army of the most feared Space Marine Chapter ever known...

No, but if I did, I'd probably play the Necrons.

Well, maybe not then.

Tau are fun to play, but having to balance out your army for both long range and close quarters means you end up with an army that has troops that are only good at one or the other. Your Kroot have to get in close to do anything, which means I can have fun mowing them down when they try to approach, and deep strike a bunch of Termies up close to your ranged units. If you hold your kroot back to protect your ranged units from my termies, I just move my units in range of their guns or hammer your kroot positions from range with a Whirlwind battery and then deep strike.

If I'm playing IG, I just surge a Baneblade (or one of it's variants, I've got several, Forge World FTW!) over and destroy your heavy support and command squads while hammering your kroot with Basilisk artillery. Basically my Elites, and Troops options take flanking positions for the tanks to guard their advance and play bullet sponges, and the command squad staying back to guard the artillery.

What can make it iffy when facing Tau is if the match allows enough points for the Tau player to have multiple Hammerheads and Skyrays, which forces me to bring in more Heavy Support options like Land Raider and Predator variants. Tau heavy support and elites can deal out some monster whoop ass at range (I friggin hate Broadsides).

Either way, I win both the battle and the point standings. One strategy costs a little more then the other is all.
