Why I’m Voting for Obama and Mormonism
Obama is the most intelligent candidate. Given their respective academic track records, this cannot be denied.
Obama is the better leader. If you compare how McCain and Obama ran their respective presidential campaigns, it is clear who had the steady hand.
Obama has better judgment. Obama is the only presidential candidate who picked a qualified vice-presidential nominee. He’s the one who understands that we can’t afford the war in Iraq.
Obama ran a cleaner campaign. I used to really like John McCain, but his fear mongering tactics (e.g. pretending that Bill Ayers is an issue) have really turned me off.
Palin reminds me of George Bush. Bush was a maverick Washington outsider who didn’t speak correct English and was going to bring good-old fashioned conservative values and common sense to Washington. I’m done with that type, thank you.
Fiscal Responsibility. Obama has a specific plan for making Social Security solvent. He makes an issue of fiscal responsibility and is more willing to do responsible yet unpopular things in this area. McCain’s tactic of hacking at the leaves of earmarks, all the while maintaining a ridiculously expensive war and irresponsible tax cuts is something that we can’t afford.
Oh--and Mormonism. If Mitt Romney would have stuck to the values he expressed when he ran for office in Massachusetts, he’d totally be my guy in the election now. It's a shame he had to pander to the Republican base and that they rejected him because of his religion. Would I vote for Romney in 2012? I really don’t think America can afford a president who panders to the far-right the way he has lately, so unless he were to credibly go back to his more moderate self, then probably not.

It’s relatively easy to agree that only Homo sapiens can speak about things that don’t really exist, and believe six impossible things before breakfast. You could never convince a monkey to give you a banana by promising him limitless bananas after death in monkey heaven.

Me too. I supported McCain throughout most of the primary, but by the early weeks of the general election I was pretty disillusioned with this man that I had thought was a person of integrity and sober moderation.

As far as book smarts I agree. But as far as real life leaderhip smart Obama is a neophyte compared to McCain.

Sorry. Running a campaign is small potatoes in the over all scheme of showing one'e ability to lead.

I do think his VP pick showed better judgement than McCain's. I think McCain knows the Iraq war is costly but I worry that Obama will pull out too soon. Wish we were never there but now we have to see it through.

I agree there but I think Obama's connections to Ayers and his pastor are and were fair game to bring up as far as understanding who Obama is and what kind of judgment he has. If Clinton had brought these up sooner she would be the nominee now.
Palin reminds me of George Bush. Bush was a maverick Washington outsider who didn’t speak correct English and was going to bring good-old fashioned conservative values and common sense to Washington. I’m done with that type, thank you.
Tough to argue with that.

If he has better plans for these things I have yet to see them. But both are dismal in my opinion as far as their economic plans go. However, we have I am starting to see just what a huge mess the past 16 years of leadership has got us into from all leaders. They have been more concern about propping up an artificial economy for their own political interests than really doing the right thing. No matter who is there we are in for pain. The question is who will prolong it more. I think both will since they are both behind this massive bailout and buying bad mortgages. We are in for hyperinflation and a devaluation of the dollar perhaps worse than the 70s and beyond.

I was disappointed in Romney's pandering to the right as well.

My nephew recently served in Iraq. His opinion - which is shared by many of the soldiers he served with - is that there is a natural "ceiling" of what we can hope to attain in Iraq, and we've probably reached that ceiling. Any further progress will have to happen within the country itself, after our removal.
I think it's also important to note that the Iraqi citizens have pretty much segregated themselves, now, which is a factor to be considered in terms of weighing possible future escalations of violence.
Obama has frequently said that it's important that we be as thoughtful getting out of Iraq as we should have been prior to going in. I agree totally with this. In fact, Obama has been criticized by those who want an immediate withdrawal, as well.
Although my respect for Colin Powell was eroded after he misled the country in his testimony to the UN, he does know a lot about the situation, and I suspect will be willing to advise Obama.
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

Hyperinflation is obviously a very bad thing. However, there is a part of me that wonders whether it'll end up helping me pay off my mortgage faster. No, I'm not in any trouble with my mortgage, but I do like to look for possible plus sides where I can. ;)

Interesting. I will have to ask my son about his view on this as he has served two tours there.

He was the fall guy.

Go down thirteen paragraphs or so. He was duped. Colin Powell is a good man. He deserves our respect.

If we have hyperinflation low interest loans will be able to be paid back with cheaper dollars assuming you have a job to earn the money to pay it with. Also, if the dollar plummets in value as it most likely will due to all the foreign debt, the trade deficit and all the money being printed to pay the bail out investing in foreign company stocks and foreign securities may pay off big time.

I agree with you Analytics, on Obama, McCain and Romney. There are, or were, things I really liked about McCain and Romney, but they lost that appeal (to me) in their respecctive races for the White House. But I have no regrets, as I am happy to give my vote for Barack Obama. For once I feel like I am truy voting for someone I want to win instead of essentially voting against a candidate I thoroughly despise (i.e. Bush in 2000 and 2004).
