Sweden Stalin Obama
I have heard some of the most insane rhetoric here lately. These include comparisons of Obama to the mass murderer Stalin and claims that Obama and his "ilk" will jail those who disagree.
Not lets come back to reality and ask:
1. Are the leaders of Sweden and France murdering millions or jailing those who disagree? Recall, we keep hearing about how such countries are socialist. They are indeed far far more in that direction than anything Sen. Obama proposes.
Who are the Stalins of France?
2. Does the hyperbole from the far right prove that these people are really not pro-American at all but rather simply pro-republican? Will they show the respect to president Obama that they expected us to show to Bush? Will they pitch in and help rebuild the economy and solve our health care problems by crossing party lines in a spirit of cooperation up or will they behave like an angry mob becoming more extreme and continuing to separate themselves by declaring the rest of us not real Americans (Palin)?
My prophecy>
I predict 4 years of lies, conspiracy theories, rumor mongering, and character assassination from the right in a desperate ploy for a return to power. They will blame the aftermath of Bush and Wall Street (all the consequences of which still haven't completely hit us) on the Democrats. The latter ploy depends on taking the stand that whoever has recently come to power is responsible for all present problems and thus going against the previously expedient philosophy of blaming things on stuff that was done clear back when Clinton was in office (can't have it both ways folks).

when believers want to give their claims more weight, they dress these claims up in scientific terms. When believers want to belittle atheism or secular humanism, they call it a "religion". -Beastie

One thing I have to admit that I worry about assuming an Obama administration is how the right will react, given the divisive nature of their campaigning.
You think the right-wing radicals are nuts now...

It’s inevitable that ditto-head Republicans will be superlatively spiteful and will do everything in their power to sabotage the Obama administration. While there are issues that either party won’t compromise on (e.g. Choice), hopefully high-minded Republicans will be willing to work in good faith with the Democrats on issues they can agree on (e.g. reducing unwanted pregnancies, not to mention energy independence).
It’s relatively easy to agree that only Homo sapiens can speak about things that don’t really exist, and believe six impossible things before breakfast. You could never convince a monkey to give you a banana by promising him limitless bananas after death in monkey heaven.

Gee sort of like the left wing radicals are doing to Bush and the Republicans today and for the past 8 years.

Gee, just like the left wing has been doing to the Bush administration for about 8 years.

I think Democrats have more legitimate complaints about Bush than the Republicans had about Clinton. And you must admit that the Republicans treated President Clinton worse than the Democrats treated Bush.
Regardless of who wins, I think all Americans should be glad Bush’s reign is over, and work together on the real issues that we agree about.

Well, professor, France and Sweden have been known to jail people who say "controversial" things:

You know the democrats have not supported Bush for 1 second, from the initial problems with the Florida vote count onwards. Perhaps now they have some real complaints but earlier they did not. And I used to think that no President could more despised than Clinton was by the right but sorry the left against Bush makes the right against Clinton look like kindergartners.
Regardless of who wins, I think all Americans should be glad Bush’s reign is over, and work together on the real issues that we agree about.
That would be wonderful.

I don't know about that. Most of the Democrats were falling over each other to support the Iraq War when they thought it was to their advantage.

That was and is ridiculous. Not too long ago, I was arguing with some dim bulbs (and a math prof who should have known better) who still think Gore won, despite solid evidence to the contrary.

I see, you want to make sure that people are free to spew hate speech which endangers lives by promoting hate and lies (think of the skin heads who want to kill balck school children), without fear of having their hands slapped by with a few comfy days in jail.
Don't worry, we will always have hate speech freedom in the USA.
Do you know how many unjust jail sentences happen in this country? Black kids in jail for years for selling pot while Wall Street fat cats lie, cheat, and defraud and then sit with drink on a beach in Cancun even after being caught?
This country has a much bigger problem with justice than Sweden.
The United States incarcerates more people per capita than any other country.
