Obama's Half Hour Commercial
What did you think?
I thought it was pretty good. Great production values, clear message, and promotes real hope for the future.

Well done but all I could think was that the anti-Obama types would be laughing and shouting back at the screen with the kind of derisive stuff we hear from Dartagnan and Antishock. Any undecideds in a houshold where these guys live would probably not have even been able to hear the message.
He set out his platform in clear succinct sentences. But who did he convince?

I thought about that too (afterward) and just thought, "Well, too bad for them." Maybe they think the same of me when I laugh and mock Sarah Palin any time I see her on TV, with that outrageously annoying accent and choppy English of hers.
*shrug*

Well, you know his supporters were into it, and I believe it's hoped that it will encourage all of them to actually get to the polls and vote.
And you know the hard core McCain supporters probably did point at it and laugh, but it obviously was not for them.
I think the real target audience are the undecideds and the soft republicans who just needed a little push Obama's way. To see (at least one of the) candidates deliver a clear plan to help us navigate out of this Bush mess we're in is probably pretty impressive to most.
It funny... most of what you hear from McCain is, "What do we really know about Obama?" (completely forgetting that we know even less about Palin). To counter that, I would ask, "What do we really know about McCain's plans?"

I felt the spirit. Just like when I'd watch those sappy church videos.
WK: "Joseph Smith asserted that the Book of Mormon peoples were the original inhabitants of the americas"
Will Schryver: "No, he didn’t." 3/19/08
Still waiting for Will to back this up...

Does it not matter to any of you that he was able to fund these ads because he broke his promise from a year ago when he said he wouldn't accept public campaign funds? EVen the dailyKos agrees, but chalks it up to Obama being able to "outfox" McCain.
Yes, I guess one might expect a man like McCain to keep his word. He was also silly enough to believe Obama was an honorable man. "Outfoxed"! Obama is the first major candidate to do this since 1976? Wow. Could you imagine if thetables were turned, and it was John McCain who outspent Obama by a ratio of 8:1? His success would be based strictly on the rich white man's money. But when Obama is essentially buying this election, it is because he represents "hope."
Obama also lied when he said he would finish his first term in the Senate.
And he lied when he said he didn't think he was ready to be President. Now he is desperately trying to stunt McCain's momentum with this silly ad, where he looks entirely artificial. He won't do town hall meetings because he is only interested inlecture, not debate. He isn't going to make that mistake again (Joe the plummer).

Sure. Reversing a previous commitment is always troubling. If that were the only issue in this campaign then it may have an effect on me. But it is one in a thousand considerations.
I have had to go back on my word once before when I realized that keeping my word would cause harm to a person or cause that was more important. It was painful and humbling to have to do it.
crap happens in life. Did McCain go back on his word (or vows) when he had extramarital affairs (admitted)? Isn't that more serious?
Also, to quote one blogger "McCain went back on his word when he supported Bush’s veto on limiting the CIA’s use of physical and mental force to extract information".

Tarski you'll do whatever it takes to rationalize away all the egregious errors of Obama. Weakness that would be considered by reasonable folks. The man lied to us and all you can do is say McCain lied to his wife!
Gee, you should empathize more with McCain then.
What Obama did was sleazy. He lied to the American people. He said he wouldn't take public funds. Funding is a huge factor in determining who wins the election. Trying tod ownplay the lie and its impact on the election is idiotic.

Re: Obama's Half Hour Commercial
It cracks me up when I hear the phrase "buying the election." If McCain had that money, it would only give him more opportunity to f*** up. Having limited air time is the best thing he's got going for him.
It's one thing to have the money to get your word out there. It's quite another to have something worth saying.
