That's funny you mention the election of 1800 'cause I was thinking of that the last few days. Contentious political debate has always been a factor in our politics and actually the rhetoric was quite a bit more vile and divisive early in our history. Yet, I think that now that we understand how speech can affect us and the power it has that we would, as a population, be more aware of it.

I think there must be a way where people can communicate and seek change, yet, when we seek change we must be careful to recognize our opponents are still human beings that are working from a different history, different values (or morals), and a different cultural background. I doubt with our tribal tendencies this will be something we ever actually overcome.

Absolutely. ISNA wants to implement Shari'ah in North America. Shari'ah is bigotry manifested; a system of law that is misogynistic, intolerant, and ultimately violent toward believers and non-believers alike. This is a fact. It's indisputable. And the fact that B.O. is meeting with these people is akin to any politician cavorting with White Supremacists ... Probably less problematic, though.

I'm not really sure what part Shari'ah that doesn't fecking ring a Leftist's/Progresseive's/Feminist's/Homosexual's/Non-Muslim's alarm, but the idea that any Western politician is meeting with, and making political alliances with the Arabic version of Nazis on steroids is stunning. This is no joke. This isn't alarmism. This is reality. It boggles the mind.

I'm stunned that you've resorted to apologetics when it comes to your team. You know for a fact that Bill Ayers mentored B.O., and facilitated his political career. You also know for a fact the difference between B.O.'s relationship with Rashid Khalili, and McCain's organization that was attempting to spread democracy in the M.E.

Governor Palin and John McCain should have been much more aggressive toward B.O. and his associations. They showed misguided restraint throughout the campaign, and belatedly started attacking B.O. for his poor judgement and misguided associations.

I doubt you'll be reasonable enought to admit any wrongdoing by B.O. on anything, much in the same vein a Mormon apologist is reluctant to admit being wrong or cede a point to a critic on any issue. The endgame is the same in both instances.

It must be very disappointing to you that your own candidates obviously disagree with you. By now, most people probably realize that neither Palin nor McCain thinks that Palin was "palling around with terrorists", or that he was "mentored" by Ayers, or had some terrorist-friendly relationship with Khalidi.

However, I don't expect you to ever recognize that. I'm betting that little old lady who had five minutes of fame at a McCain rally still thinks Obama is an A-Rab, too.

Do a google for James Aitken a.k.a. John the Painter and Sons of Liberty. Or American revolutionary war terrorists/terrorism. Those that we disagree with culturally and value wise are no less human. So, within a span of a couple of days, Sarah Palin is now blessing Barack Obama, after accusing him of "palling around with terrorists".

Where is the contradition? Palin simply asked that we allow him to savor the moment and for God to bless him (to see the light as is the context for all religious conservatives). Afterall, he's not President yet. All hell need not break loose now.

Palin is a scatter brained hockey mom. All that erupts from her lip stick caked pie hole can and should be easily ignored.

She lost the race. Game over. 15 minutes of fame gone and spent. She will get a small mention in the history books as the first attempt to place a woman in the VP spot, but in the end proved to be the failure of the party.

in my opinion, she was too full of her self and got caught up in the moment of being the first female candidate for VP. Kind of like what Carly Fiorina did when she was erroneously given the top spot at HP. Just like McFossil, the HP board gave Carly the spot for mere PR.

Both of these women became so enamored with their positions as women that their minds became clouded and made critical decisions like a teen aged girl.

Note to the buffoons who run the republican party, you will get more mileage next time by simply finding the most qualified person for the job of VP. Leave the cheerleaders on the sidelines. In case you have not been told this a million times, there were other women who would have made a great running mate for McFossil.
