I guess we can argue about how the earth may cease to be, but getting back to the OP..
If the world isn't horrible enough for Jesus to swoop in and splatter the blood of bad guys all over Himself:
Did He witness the slaughter of 6 million Jews, the genocide of entire countries (300+ million) under the Stalin/Lenin's regime, 3 million during Polpot, the millions of abortions each year, child molestation and rape, Slim Whitman records..?
what in the hell is he waiting for?
Seems the Mormon God (and some other ones) of this world are like a very bad parent. He begs and whines hoping his children will respond to him, all along giving them more than they need, spoiling them with un-ending distractions. Then occasionally he'll even give an all or nothing apolcalyptic threat which entirely looses its meaning over time. To make matters worse, he puts unexperienced nannies in charge while He attends to less important things.
Then, because his parenting skills (or His social experiments) are almost entirely inneffective, in a fit of uncontrollable rage his tantrum lays waste to His failures - His children and even their children. And then He starts the cycle all over again, never learning from His past catastrophes.
Maybe He ought to pay attention and take a little more responsibility for His antisocial inneptitude..
The guy on utube sure has pretty music, though. Almost makes you forget about Auschwitz, Kolyma or the Killing Fields.

God has His reasons for a hands off approach, but I can understand the anguish of Slim Whitman records.
Still wondering if the end of the world will be on the agenda this coming weekend.

OK...just wondering if there was something specific that one of the Brethren said that focused you on that time frame.
Nope, just an ongoing hunch that I suspect has some revelation mixed in. May or may not, sometimes I know for sure it is, sometimes for sure it isn't, this is one of the no idea times.

Sounds like ETB is speaking directly to those members who deny global warming as a reality.

The earth is warmer. Whether it is a natural part of our earth's cycle or man made is what is not certain.
Those who shout anthropogenic warming do not understand the core teachings of Geology nor do they have a proper perspective concerning the passage of time.

I don't really have a "side" on the global warming debate, but I tend to be a little sceptical of both sides. Nevertheless, I'd like to see you demonstrate how Summerhayes "does not understand the core teachings of Geology" or "have a proper perspective concerning the passage of time".

Allow me to clarify. Are humans augmenting the climate? Yes. Is this a world-ending disaster? No. Did humans cause the warming during the carboniferous period? Of course not. This is a multidimensional problem that we are not even close to fully understanding.
Fear and profit motives are the subtext of people like Al Gore and others who have made a business out of fear. as little as several centuries ago the ice levels at the poles have fluctuated drastically. As albedo, gas levels, solar minimums and other factors flux there is so much data to chew on that those who immediately jump to the anthropogenic warming conclusions come off as tinfoil hat wearing nutjobs.
The Al Gores of the world are stirring up panic while ignoring the fact that there is nothing we can do about it even if anthropogenic factors are the main influence in the supposed warming trends.
The anthropogenic camp is a religion. The camp I plant my flag in is between the middle and the so-called "denial" camp. The current pathetic refrain coming from the priests of Gore will go away after the public loses interest and focus is shifted to more reasoned approaches. Emotion and jumping to conclusions is no way to reach scientifically sound conclusions. I'm not directing this at you, but its how I see it.

"In climate, when this happens, the climate state changes. You go from a cooling regime to a warming regime or a warming regime to a cooling regime. This way we were able to explain all the fluctuations in the global temperature trend in the past century," Tsonis said. "The research team has found the warming trend of the past 30 years has stopped and in fact global temperatures have leveled off since 2001."
The most recent climate shift probably occurred at about the year 2000.
Now the question is how has warming slowed and how much influence does human activity have?
"But if we don't understand what is natural, I don't think we can say much about what the humans are doing. So our interest is to understand -- first the natural variability of climate -- and then take it from there. So we were very excited when we realized a lot of changes in the past century from warmer to cooler and then back to warmer were all natural," Tsonis said.
Tsonis said he thinks the current trend of steady or even cooling earth temps may last a couple of decades or until the next climate shift occurs.
