This emphasis on prosperity stuff has infected many churches. Not sure if the reason it has been allowed to continue was that it pumped some extra bucks into the collection plates

Not sure if anyone has ever written about or observed rich people being snooty and arrogant before. But if it ever does happen, Nehor will point out that it is "classist propaganda rhetoric".

No, I won't always. Just in this case. The Book of Mormon is FULL of warnings to the wealthy. Being affluent myself I take these warnings very seriously. However, I would like to share a Book of Mormon scripture with Daheshist, modified slightly to fit his situation:

"Woe unto the liar for he shall be THRUST.......not peacefully prodded, not passively persuaded, not gently led, but THRUST down to hell."
"Surely he knows that DCP, The Nehor, Lamanite, and other key apologists..." -Scratch clarifying my status in apologetics
"I admit it; I'm a petty, petty man." -Some Schmo

Nehor,

1) Mormons don't believe MOST of what The Book of Mormon teaches, that Hell is eternal unending misery, no salvation for the dead, there IS ONLY ONE GOD, one MUST BE BORN AGAIN in order to be saved, etc., etc., etc. What makes you think for a SECOND that affluent Mormons are going to pay one SECOND of attention to what the Book of Mormon teaches regarding wealth and NOT despising the poor??? Mormons will continue to IGNORE anything in the Book of Mormon, or D&C, that doesn't suit their fancy.

2) FOOL....I have told the TRUTH which fools like you call a "lie" because you don't wish to accept the truth. Woe unto you who call a LIE the TRUTH, and the TRUTH a lie.

My evidence? I'm an affluent Mormon and I take the commands regarding wealth and the poor VERY seriously.

You've told me the justifications you've made up for yourself to explain why you are uneducated, poor, and unemployed. You want to make your childhood and young adulthood seem horrible so you don't have to take responsibility for the patheticism of your life. Wake-up call, you are responsible for who and what you are.

That is the TRUTH.

I think SOME LDS people worship gain -- not all. However, I have one question -- has anyone ever seen a part-member family (husband rich, but not LDS, wife LDS) where the LDS woman was not extremely attractive? Has anyone ever seen a rich non-LDS guy married to an unatractive LDS woman?

I am not rich but I think the first person who posted is full of it. I served in one of the richest wards in the Church. (corona del mar/newportbeach) and it was just like any other ward. I would have to say that there was a bit less spirituality in the whole area though. Tracting was a Joke. Envy is much more pernicious and evil than being rich is. It is the basis of all liberalism and probably the root of most people leaving the church.

While my kids were growing up, our ward was an interesting mix. Heber city has a "hill" (Valley Hills) where the affluent live. Down off of the hill is the older part of town where the no so affluent live. Half of our ward was on the hill, the other half not.
We had several class clash issues over the years ... in every case, it was instigated by the not so affluent towards the affluent.
I think it was just a jealousy thing.

Paul Dunn Mormons.

This type of behavior can be seen often in the 'Marin County Wannabees' in the wards of Sandy, Utah.

Will you please explain how/why envy is the root of most people leaving the church?
"Finally, for your rather strange idea that miracles are somehow linked to the amount of gay sexual gratification that is taking place would require that primitive Christianity was launched by gay sex, would it not?"

Then greed is the basis of all conservatism and the causation of people remaining Mormon?
