DCP has generously accepted Brent's denial of being Scratch.

Of course, he didn't appreciate Brent's prophetic abilities.

One of Brent's two emails to scratch:

"Informant"? LOL!

The funny thing (in the tradition of Dan P.'s raucously ironic, self-effacing "humor") is that I suspect Dan P. et al. likely believe that you're ongoing inspection of Mopologetics has involved my personal encouragement (similar to expressed concerns involving my fanciful "mentorship" of Kevin Graham—even though we had only exchanged a handful of PMs and, with the exception of one, at his behest).

Yet my previous message to you was the first. Let the conspiracies begin

DCP is nothing if not predictable.
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

Do you have a link where this nonsense is discussed?

Personally, I am still interested in hearing the apologists' explanation as to how all this happened. As best I can tell, DCP agrees with Brent Metcalfe's account, which means, in effect, that they (i.e., DCP & Co.) are accusing Michael Watson (and by extension the First Presidency) of having plagiarized the EoM. Isn't that the issue here? I mean, if the EoM is the source text, and it was passed along sans any attribution (and in some cases, with some "tweaking"), then don't we have a rather egregious case of plagiarism on our hands?

I, too, would like to bow my head in reverent thanksgiving for the priceless treasure that hath been bestowed upon us by the benevolent Brother Gregory Smith.

This has been a Christmas Gift beyond compare.

I also give thanks to Brent Metcalfe for identifying the fount from which this blessing flowed.

Checkmate.

Game, set, and match.

Goodbye, 2nd Watson Letter. It's been nice knowing you.

Doctor Scratch: In light of the developments of the past couple of days, I would very much encourage you to revisit and update your "Top 10 Happenings in Mopologetics, 2009." I think it no exaggeration that this wholly unprecedented development deserves a place in the top 10--most assuredly the #1 spot, as I'm sure you'll agree.

Checkmate, indeed.

I wonder if Brother Meldrum is aware of the recent goings-on? He may be interested to know the (non?) status of the Second Watson Letter.

I would also like to register my sincere gratitude for Bro. Greg Smith's gift. To see FARMS, an organization I have been made acutely aware of since my youth, caught fudging evidence redhanded brings tears of joy to my eyes. The Second Watson Letter (now best described as an unattributed quote from FARMS itself) gives Mormons and non-Mormons alike reason to tentatively doubt every claim made by the Maxwell Institute. That is a very good thing, in my opinion, and gives me hope for those still shackled by the cultish dogma prescribed by the church.

Happy Holidays, indeed.

I dunno. It's not better than the Schweddy Balls* given me by the Latin dance instructor who teaches me the merengue on Friday nights.

Mmm. Coconut.

Yeah. I wish that DCP would clarify for us: was it FARMS itself that plagiarized? Or was it Michael Watson and the First Presidency? The Good Professor claims to not understand why this merits inclusion on a "Top Ten" list, and I have to say: really?

As grand a gift as Dr. Smith bestowed upon us this holiday season, I am also in deep gratitude to Brent Metcalfe. I am not sure how he pieced together the phraseology from the Ogden Fax and Ludlow's EoM, but it was the coup de gras that closed the loop of the noose around FARMS' neck. (And it made me feel I had slipped up by not Googling some of the phrases out of the Ogden Fax to see where on the Net they might also have appeared.)
