Well, my bad. I didn't read the link and assumed that the story was totally baseless. Now that I've read it, it still sounds like a lot of faith promoting malarkey (but then I'm hard-hearted and stiff-necked and recalcitrant).

But I will make amends by telling you my very own faith promoting story. This one is absolutely true to the best of my recollection.

The Great Alaskan Earthquake of March 27, 1964, the really big one, but I didn't realize how big until hearing radio reports about death, destruction and tidal waves. After that, the aftershocks were way more terrifying to me than the initial quake had been.

On the first day of school after the quake, we met for early morning seminary in the basement of the church building. We were singing the opening song when an aftershock hit. All the kids jumped up and headed for the door. The teacher called us back and told us that the building was one of the safest in town and we should stay inside. Then she told us to go on with the 3rd verse.

When the earth begins to tremble,
Bid our fearful thoughts be still

Wowzeewow! The church is true.

Recently that seminary teacher passed away and my sister told me I should get up at the funeral and tell the story, but I felt it would be socially irresponsible to give information to people who don't really have the capacity to process it properly.

(I just can't stop myself from being snarky either)

And I'm still terrified at the smallest tremor.

Let's see, according to wiki, there are 5.7 million people living in the city of Santiago. According to wiki, 279 died in the quake. The efforts of revelation are unlikely to account for missionary survival beyond what is already accounted for by blind chance. It's odd that God would put this kind of effort into earthquake alerting where no alerting was really needed while letting 200,000 go without a hint.

The MAD board and Mormon blogs after any natural disaster, such as Haiti's, fill with posts about the increasing frequency and devastation of natural disasters. That a Mormon in earthquake prone Chile would worry after the devastation in Haiti is more predictable than not.

Finally, both hits and misses need to be counted. How many TBM moms have gone nuts getting the 72 hour kit together, have felt impressed to stock the basement with food storage, and then nothing happens? How many times have Mormons been caught unprepared, like when the Hinckster dumbly predicted a happy and prosperous 2004, moments before the tsunami?
Lou Midgley 08/20/2020: "...meat wad," and "cockroach" are pithy descriptions of human beings used by gemli? They were not fashioned by Professor Peterson.

LM 11/23/2018: one can explain away the soul of human beings...as...a Meat Unit, to use Professor Peterson's clever derogatory description of gemli's ideology.

What would be worth knowing is if someone gets a revelation that another 8.9 quake is going to hit the New Madrid fault in Missouri. The one in the early 1800's rang church bells in New York City.

If another of that magnitide hits there we won't have to worry about New Orleans at all, it will wash out to sea. Most of the towns along the Mississippi river will disappear. St. Louis and Kansas City will be major disaster areas.

Warn of big ones far enough in advance for people to get out of the major danger areas. At least warn the members. Some of them gossip and talk so much everyone else will know withing hours of the warning.
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you do criticize them you'll be a mile away and you'll have their shoes.

The Great Alaskan Earthquake of March 27, 1964

Old Testament but my daddy was in that one. Carry on.
