Yes in answer to your question, if Joseph said it with reference to translating I believe it, yes.

The Greek Psalter episode, well I think so much was expected of him at times I think he would just invent nonsense to placate peoples whims.

In such a case, wouldn't an honest person just say, "I don't know?"
"Finally, for your rather strange idea that miracles are somehow linked to the amount of gay sexual gratification that is taking place would require that primitive Christianity was launched by gay sex, would it not?"

Rumpole,

I can honestly tell you that Joseph Smith was faking the translation and he didn't tell the truth about the characters and writing in Facsimile No. 3. How do I know this? I can read Egyptian which has been restablished in the world after the days of Joseph Smith. It is a language that can be read just like German and French. Can you read either of those languages?

Well, if one could translate a German poem into French it would no sooner appear that both nations would be edified together in the same message of truth. But Joseph Smith did nothing of the sort. The ancient Egyptians would be highly offended with Smith's blasphemy for calling one of their chief gods a slave and making up silly names for his heathen religion. Had Joseph done that in ancient days he could have been impaled on a stake.

I bear witness that the translations of Facsimile No. 3 offered by Joseph Smith are utterly false and feel the church should apologize for this terrible insult. The church has little respect for the ancient Egyptians and has stepped all over them in a manner that is most unkind. It is one thing to commit blasphemy as Joseph did and its another to ignore it alltogether as has the First Presidency of the LDS church. Someday, they will be sued in a court of law for making false statements about another major religion.

Rumpole,

How are things at Old Bailey these days? I retired as a barrister years ago and haven't been back since.

Joseph was fond of making up stories. His entire portfolio, including the Book of Mormon, was made up just to placate the whims of people whose pockets he was picking. Clever fellow. He was, you know, a spider. All those tasty morsels of early Mormon insects. Joseph wasn't a cafeteria Mormon, he was a smörgåsbord Mormon.

I am certain Joseph would have been overjoyed in Utah had he made it there. All those Mormon crickets. Yum.

Ta-dah.
